1 of 3 images created for am editor review at Marvel, as requested by the Spidey people.
all 2-D work, painted entirely in Photoshop, actual comic book size @ 300 DPI.. the large negative space up top is for the logo placement..
crits and comments welcomed, I consider it finished with a few minor corrections in order, but anything mentioned will certainly be considered in any final changes I may make.
The next painting to come is of Thor...
thanks everybody

Wow. Very good. Kind of hard to believe its all 2d... the geometry of the brick arches seems flawless.
The first thing that stood out to me was the background/forground separation could have been a little stronger. The machine in the background competes for attention with the figure in foreground. Overall composition seems pretty tight. Maybe something funky in perspective... between the figure and the background... uh i dont know.
Very nice. Really like how you rendered the balcony grid.
How long does something like this take? _________________ "A fear of weapons is a sign of retarded sexual and emotional maturity" - Sigmund Freud |

I think the machine is supposed to stand out, because if im not mistaken, Mr. fantasti is that blue sheet spred out on the machine, you can see his skin where Dr. Doom ripped off the fantastic four logo.
Great Job General Confusion, I am in awe. I cant belive that is all 2d, it is so.. so... perfect. _________________ Visit glitterbugs Secret Forum |

Looks amazing, but I agree with Drunken Monkey, the foreground and background are running together for me. It took me a little while to separate the two, and realize that he isn't holding the steamroller over his head. It also creates a problem for the perspective, because it's difficult to see that he's on a balcony overlooking the scene. One last thing, the right side of the blue sheet, with the black oval on it, is confusing me... What is that part? Where is it stretching out to? |

Interesting indeed. IMHO teh shinyness of his armor stands out too much in comparison with teh BG, in terms of contrast at least. The whole balcony thingy r0x0rz my panties. _________________

Drunken Monkey - it's all 2-D, (honestly) I layed out the perspective in Photoshop using the pen tool, and went from there, it took about 30 hours.
Exoudeous - you got it, thanks
Tinusch - that blakc shape is the neck piece around Reeds uniform.. for the most part everyone understands it being Reed, I didnt want to make it to descriptive.. ( i have to really decie if that's a good direction, not sure)
[666]Flat - thanks, and here is an update that may fix some of the issues brought up..

That works a lot better, yeah!
Some thoughts:
. The hand holding the '4' seems a little loose. It might just need the shadowing sharpened to make it look like he's actually holding the 4.
. His other hand looks a little too relaxed too. It'd like to see it in a much stronger pose - more of a comic pose.
. To me, his face looks like it's collapsed in around the eyes.
. I'd be interested to see what he looks like with a strong edge/rim light (either on his left or right side). _________________ Art Links Archive -- Artists and Tutorials |
