The rules of Draw Club:

. Each theme will last exactly one week.
. We're looking for an effort, not a 10 minute sketch.
. You are not limited to the digital media.
. Do not "reserve" your place, post an image only when you have something to post.
. Feedback is encouraged.
. Keep away from interpretations of an adult nature.
. Post as many times as you like.
. Have fun.

Draw Club #17: Good Evening, and Welcome to Hell

Reach into the depths of your soul and pull out the my horrifying creature you can ever imagine. Make the children cry, and make Clive Baker scream like Ned Flanders, and make the Priests fall to their knees. I want you to scare us.

I agree with you Mon, nice topic. Nice picture btw. :)

I made a drawing but I need to work on
making the monsters even more powerful, hmm maybe more shouting
and things in the surrounding exploding.
I used colgate shiny teeth on the monster this time. :)

Edit - I just noticed that the pose is kind of similar to HPX monster picture earlier, sorry about that hpx.

topic! Ok, thats only its hand. I wouldnt dare even to look at the pic of the whole creature. Not to mention post it here as it would make we all go grazy by one simple look...

Mon: Wow, the speed at which you do these is amazing. Shocked

Matthew: Good texture on this one. "Looks the business", as we say over here. Smile

Mark Harris: You have a nice painterly style. Very cool.

Osto: Nice and sharp effect. I like the way it kinda blends in further down.

noxi: Cool example of Photomanip done _well_. Great work.

Started this earlier today. Might work on it a bit more or maybe just do some more for this weeks Draw Club. It's a good one this week.

Shocked

I see you've become good friends with the palette knife, that's one damn cool horsie you've got there ceenda!! Makes me think of Art Deco and Tamara Di Lempicka

even though you're not a lesbian and you can't possibly look as cool as her in a Bugatti, there is a distinct resemblance Wink

I recognize those characters....

Fire
....what?
Metal
Earth

Wood appears to be missing, as is water....not sure what that second character is.

No I cant speak chinese but I would really like to learn.
I know some signs which the bullies earlier didnt think that I knew.
Yeah those are the signs from the wuxing teaching, not sure what it is called in chinese thou.
They are five elements and I think it is how the materials relate to eachother.
I have used fire, wood, metal, earth in my signature and I havent used Water cause I think that one was too tricky to draw.
I agree with you Godwin that the above signs were sloppy and I made those kind of quick just to add my sign to the picture.

Anyway here are the signs drawn by me and if you see any faults with them feel free to correct them so I will know how to make them perfect. :)

thank you
Matthew

Here's my little contibution. It was done in Painter 7 with a wacom tablet.

I am not excited about the background, but I don't feel like working on it anymore. If anyone knows of any good fire painting tutorials, I would like the link. I had a tough time with the fire behind the doorway. C & C welcome.

Your wood char is odd because the middle line should be straight down. I also noticed that you had a hook to the left in your picture... it shouldn't be there.

Anyways.. more random tips - do the proper strokes.. in general top to bottom left to right. Um, try to make your chars square.

Included are the 5 chars you guys mentioned with the strokes.. apologies for ghetto writing, but well... yeah I have messy writing in any language.. Smile

TylerDurden - thank you for taking the time to show the characters. :)
I have a question thou, does the different directions of the chinese language have different characters? cause your characters looks more like Japanese characters I have seen.
But compared with the ones I have seen yours are very nice, just wanna be sure that they are Chinese and what kind of accent they are, mandarine? or others. thank you and thank you for the tutorial. :)

maxetormer - Kick ass stuff, I love your painting style, it reminds me off Guro Gunayavy if you have seen his work. :)

Ok I need to work on another monster cause I have mainly flooded this thread with my Chinese talking. :)

Hasta Luego
Matthew

Not to answer for Tyler, but a lot of Chinese and Japanese characters are either similar or identical - some Japanese kanji were derived from older Chinese characters. For example, the character for "rat":

Japanese (nezumi): http://www.rattysghost.com/nezumi.jpg

Chinese (shu): http://www.gorblimey.com/art/scratch.jpg (it's the top character, the big one. I made it a bit exaggerated/calligraphic, sort of thing, but it usually looks almost identical to the Japanese character.

Lots of great pieces on this thread as usual. Here's a painting I had laying around, I manipulated it in Photoshop, and incorporated some of my other paintings in it. Let me know what you think.
