Took me about 15hours.
No reference used, but some own zoo-lifedrawing-studies as ref for the lynx.

Nice work, as always Duracel.

What first struck me is that the image lacks depth. The lynx in the foreground has the same value as the rock face opposite him (which is seemingly quite far away). I see you applied this to the scenery in the furthest point of the scene, but I'd like to see you pull it forward more and tone down some of the values of that rock face. This would also help the lynx (which I'm assuming you want to be the focal point) stand out more.

Great mood, great atmosphere.

very VERY nice image, pleasing to watch.
I do agree with hwslut on the values, everything looks so close together.

first and foremost, VERY nice work...excellent brush choice, purposeful texture, and extreme attention to detail...15 hours well spent...

I'd have to say I agree with the others on the values...but, I think showing is better than telling, so I hope you don't mind...

In this lil' thumb, I think if you make a darker OVERLAY of trees on the left side with a few branches POINTING to the lynx, it could help.

Also if you continue this tone through the core and cast shadows of the log and into the cast shadows of the tree on the right side, it will FRAME the lynx better like they said.

Again, hope you don't mind...but, I think it'll make it POP out...GREAT WORK!!! Very Happy

p.s. - I'm glad you liked those pandas I did in the zoo thread...looks like your zoo studies inspired some creativity!

Thx all. Smile

And of course i dont mind! Overpaints are everytime a great honour.

Yep, you're all right about the depth in this picture. Loosed it out of focus while detailing.
But i like the picture anyway as it is, and this is a finished one-day-project, so i'm not going to fix anything. But i will keep critiques in mind for my next work.

hey duracel, nice details and colors. i really like the way how you paint landscape, the only crit i can say is,maybe, the brushes in fore/backgrounds are too similar?

though, i think its just your style:) so keep how it is as long as you feel comfortable with painting in that way, it doesnt really bother me of enjoying your work.

Duracel: Awesome, really nice work and the colours are well chosen too. I agree with the points about the depth. Perhaps some sketches from life drawing etc. might be good to refine the depth thing a bit. Or maybe just a scene where you can change the lighting and do the same scene with different approaches. Anyhoo, I'm rambling, but this is a great pic.

some cool stuff Duracel.

I think the thing that made you lost the depth in this picture is because of the size of the lynx, compared with the wave ripples and trees surrounding he is way too big. I made a picture fix to show what I meant thou I know you said you werent gonna change the picture I had to show you. also the stripes of light is a bit too thick which caught the attention.
Anyway feel free to kill me now when showing this, I hope it helped a bit and that you dont mind the picture fix.

see you
Matthew

Thx for commenting! Smile

Matthew, why should i kill friends trying to help? Smile
Well, first of all the lynx was the size you made him, but i thought he got lost in this piece, so i changed his size. *rolleyes*
Damn decisions - but you have to make them while painting, as Bob Ross said everytime. ^^
