Well, I am saving my pics as JPGs to compress its size so they can be viewed at this great forum. Once it is saved, I try to apply Photoshops's Unsharpen Mask filter to bring back some life lost in the compression.

The problem is that when I try to save again the file as JPG it is compressed again, losing what I had achieved.

If I apply the filter before saving the first time, the results aren't too bright.

Rolling Eyes I feel ashamed to ask this as it may have an obvious method I don't know, but...how can I compress and apply the Unsharpen Mask filter and still saving as JPG?

u can't -

its all to do with the way JPEG works the more compression u use the worse a picture will look if u use unsharp mask.. what u can try is de-screening then unsharp mask..

save a copy as .jpg and preserve the original as a psd file..

I'm not shure i understand.....
But.....resize you image, apply the filter and 'save as' *.jpg, preferably the 'save for web' where you have lots of options.

I don't see the need to save as *.jpg, open it again, apply the filter and then save once more. Then you REALLY loose detail.

In my experience you get the best results setting the unsharpen mask filter to a very high amout, and the radius to 0.1-0.3 and the threshold low aswell. Hope you figure it out.
