Hi,
I don't post very often in the gallery. My apologies to anyone who doesn't like seeing design work in here.
I am developing a poster design, print output A1... and I'm looking for some opinions. The poster design is for a university faculty called 'information environments', which is also closely associated with multimedia design (which I'm studying). It is meant to be a fairly techy poster and is meant to grab attention at an exhibition.
Which of these ideas do you think works best?
These are shown at the actual size they were produced at. Now I need to pick an idea and make a high resolution version. I hope you like them, c&c is welcome. |

They all look good, but the last one on the first row is the one which catches my eye the most. |

what are "information environments" ?
i see ie and i think internet explorer. maybe you should investigate that information tumble... and you need more spacing between the two letters if you keep them as they are. it looks like an e with an extra spine based on the characters of the font chosen. |

Hey thx for the feedback guys...
"information environments" is like information architecture or software engineering. The "IE" probably will be more apparent when the actual text goes on the bottom fo the final poster, but yeah you're right it is kinda hard to distinguish the letters. Thats the font they use normally so it's pretty much set in stone. I'll play with the spacing. |

CwStone: It maybe just needs a little bit more space to make sure the separation is totally obvious. Some ppl also don't like upper case I's unless they have header and footer serif's... don't ask me why. |

They are all good.
The two in the upper right corner don't grab my attention as much as the others.
I don't think the letters need to be further apart from each other.
Maybe they need to be seperated from the background more in some of them.
Somehow there's too much going on in the bottom row versions IMO.
Do the letters have to be centered btw?
Maybe that's something you could play with a little!?
The first one is my favorite. Maybe the letters need a little more "room to breathe"
Keep posting design work! That's an order _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

i didn't realize that there was going to be other text on it. can you mock up what the text would look like and where it would be placed so we can have an idea? even if you block it in with rectangles it would help.
and yes, you can distinguish the letters on the poster, looking at it on your high resolution monitor; however, it isn't a computer graphic. it is a poster. if i was looking at it from across any significant distance, it might be difficult to discern the letters. that effect can be useful if done intentionally, but i don't think this is the case. there's no problem with the font, especially since it is the normally used one, but do fiddle with the spacing. i would first attempt to make the negative space between the letters equal to either the width of the stroke or the gaps between the horizontals of the e before trying anything else...
the little ovals remind me of the wormhole/warp generator thingies in babylon 5. haven't seen it in a long time though. |

Tweak the saturation (increase it) of the last one, and that's my favorite.
Though the sixth one is a close second for your purposes. |
