Hey guys,
long time no post for me, I've been busy doing this and that, and still looking for work. Here is a new painting done entirely in Photoshop, I would love to hear any crits or comments, especially those who do matte work, as to what I did right, what I did wrong, etc, etc..
thanks

Very nice. These bags (?) at the left, stick out a bit too much, and I'd work more on that tree behind the house (there's some visible pattern repetition). ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ a.k.a. azazel or eltazar |

Did you use any reference? It looks so realistic.
Do somthing about those bags of flour/grain/garbage, maybe it's that they are too smooth but they don't really fit there to my oppinion.
For the rest I totally agree with Matthew

wow. nice one ! as the others -> the bags ! look closely to the bottom of them, it looks like you tried a little too consciously to shade them by-the-rules...i.e. the "ambient" lighting on the bottom....
but hey...its an awesome piece man ! ) _________________ If there is no God, who pops up the next kleenex in the box? |

I too wondered what parts are drawn in first ... is actually the whole image painted from scratch?
Doesn't anybody else think that the perspective of the house seems off?
If it's supposed to be a normal house the vanishing point shouldn't be below the horizon.
But maybe there's a story we don't know!?
Then there's the "dodged-part-meets-not-dodged-part"-line
I think there should at least be a transition.
And the shadow cast by the bags suggest a lighting situation.
But the house then would have to cast a shadow in that direction too.
And the way the side with the door is lit confuses me even more.
But I'm not an expert. Maybe that's just me ... _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Good job General.
AndyT, I think there is a huge valley, that's why you miss the transition. _________________ Bizarde's Gallery @ Visual Art

Its a photo right? It looks very real. I stared it quite a bit and i still wasnt sure if there were anything dramaticly wrong. Looks good to me. I dontt do matte painting but it still looks amazign. |

The painting itself is absolutely fantastic, you should pat yourself on the back for this one. The only problem i could maybe see are those four bags right next to the porch. They're very well done, but for some reason i don't think they are as good as the rest of the painting. Maybe it's just me. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |

Looks good.
I disagree with the transition between those two colors, since I look at that as two different lgrounds in different distance right ?
but I agree with the house looking wrong in perspective. SInce you kind of get the feeling that the background is from a more above perspective and therefor a disappearing point than it seem like the house has, the whole feeling of size between the house, trees etc give a very strange feeling + it gives the feeling that the farther part of the picture doesn't belong to the picture.
I would have lowered the background if I were you or changed the perspective of the closest objects (which is more work ofc )...
just my two cents looks good though _________________ personal: www.JoachimArt.com

IMAGE HAS BEEN UPDATED/OVERWRITTEN
matthew - thanks alot dude!!
azz - I updated the image, because your points were very good, thanks
Frode - yes I used reference but not alot, most of it is winged, the areas that I wanted to be real specific with I found ref close to what I was after... for the most part though, the work had to adhere to a layout I setup so reference was mostly used for look and feel
starglider2 - fixed that issue, what do you think now? but thanks for your comments, much appreciated
AndyT - you were right, and the bags have been dealt with and there is a cast shadow from the house (maybe it needs to be bigger??) and the whole image is painted from scratch, I challenegd myself to do it that way, to prove to myself I could
Bizarde - thanks, and you;'re right, I included a cross section of how I envision the valley to look, maybe that will clear up the perspective problems..
noxi- no but thanks for the compliment, It's all painted..
Nucleardan - I hear where you're coming from, and hopefully fixed that issue, check the update..
-HoodZ- - hey dude, and no, and also sorry for not answering you back on Francis thread, but that's a whole story in itself.. suffice to say I learned my lesson... and it's just painted... write me and I coudl elaborate more..
Joachim - you're right, in that they are differnt grounds, but the perspective is I believe correct, I included a cross section of how I see it, maybe that coudl clear it up, I don't know you tell me.. I'm opened to hearing your opinion.. I want to make this top level without doubts to it's correctness, so if you don't mind, I'd love to hear any further thoughts...
here is the cross section:
thanks again, everybody.

I don't know if somebody already hit on this, but there is something that bugs me about the midground. The foreground and background are bright and sunny, but the midground is darker like it is under a heavy cloud cover. I cannot see the sky directly above the scene, so this is possible.
I just wanted to point out that I find this to be minorly odd. If you intended such on purpose then good for you. If you did not intend this on purpose it might be something to reexamine. _________________ http://prettydiff.com/ |

I get the valley thing now!
About the perspective. I think the point didn't come across right.
The house doesn't seem to be painted related to the horizon.
That's how it looks to me.
And I guess (or hope) that's what Joachim tried to illustrate too.

Hey Yes, Andy explainted it better what my thoughts were.
THe way you lined up your crosssection, I guess it could be correct, but what makes it not look that way is that house do have a rather big field of view so to me the mountains should be more compressed, further down and smaller for it to look natural. I don't know if I'm correct I'm just writing my opinions based on how I see it. _________________ personal: www.JoachimArt.com

wow, this is very impressive skills if this is really "painted" !!
