Wearily joins the fray after lurking in the shadows for too long

Hi, been watching and learning...finally ready to start contributing Smile This is my first painting, I cant draw for shit so I took the liberty to paint one of Feng Zhu's wonderful concept pieces (hope he doesnt mind). Not sure if I am done yet but here goes anyway.

That was one of the old Draw Clubs. Smile

Nicely done too, although I have some critiques:

. The front-on lighting makes the image very flat. A more interesting lighting - dual light - setup would create a much more powerful image.

. The lack of any cast shadowing also adds to the 2D feel.

. You haven't used any value variation - everything is rendered with the same values. This also reduces the impact of the image.

. Some color variations in skin tone and metals would go a long way too.

Thanks for the critique Sumaleth, much appreciated. To be honest I wasnt too concerned with the lighting, and didnt pay much attention to it as you noticed. Will tackle that beast another day Smile

Good points about the value and colour variation though, will definately keep that in mind for my next piece.

Hey

I agree with the above mentioned crits but I gotta say that you have a nice eye for detail, very nice detail work. :)

Cheers Matthew, as a matter of fact my focus for the piece was to work on detailing. Or rather, translate my texturing skills into a painting since thats all the ole wacoms been used for in the past. Latex is a bitch I might add Smile
