Ok look, i read on here somewhere this was a good way to get texture, so w/ my easily persuaded brain i figured... HEY I'll do it for everything!
it's setting the hard edged brush at like 25-40% opacity and painting over to get texture, i think i mistook this as something to do ALL THE TIME... Evil or Very Mad Question Question

someone please talk me out of this if it's wrong, or ...lemme know if it doesn't matter Twisted Evil
a 20 second example below.

Yeah its ok. You can also assign the opacity to the wacom pressure if you have a tablet. Quite a few ppl work this way, building up strokes and hand generating gradients and soft transitions. Use soft brushes aswell and even smudge a little bit. It is really up to you how you work. The way you are attempting certainly does create a particular effect, it makes stuff look 'painterly' because you can see the brush strokes. It really depends if thats the look your going for.

Show us an actual painting of something other than a blob and we may be able to help you a little more. I Hope that helps.

I guess it's ok the way you do it.
There was a thread some time ago ... Max wrote how he does it.
The result seems convincing IMHO. Maybe you'll find something interesting there ...
