Hi all,
I'm interested to find out what kind of art really makes people tick. I mean, great artwork sure conjures emotion and often reflects life and culture, but art that really brings me undone seems to speak of an undeniable truth or human condition, especially of beauty and peace and hope of attainable perfection.
I can look at a brilliant digital piece of some horrific creature or environment that really makes me tense and afraid to be apart of that world, and hence the artist has achieved - I assume - his goal in communicating at least part of what he (or she) was trying to say. However, it seems so rare that I will stumble accross something that communicates peace, freedom, truth, grace and love in an equally powerful way...and I was wondering why that is?
I'd love it if anyone could post something like this.
The reason the subject of this topic is 'Christian art' is because I was searching for christian art online because I thought that it may generally embody a 'peace' but I couldn't find too much.
Cheers. |

Your not looking hard enough. There are plenty of pieces of digital art with the qualities you described... so I am confused about your perception of the 'scene'.
"it seems so rare that I will stumble accross something that communicates peace, freedom, truth, grace and love in an equally powerful way...and I was wondering why that is?"
Maybe opening up and working emotion into an artwork isn't everyones cup of tea. I have never felt the need to make a strongly emotive piece of art.. don't ask me why, but I guess I just don't work like that. Creating something emotionally powerful wouldn't have as much impact if it saturated popular culture. I guess its meant to be a rarity... you can't force emotion.
Anyway... hope that made sense. |

Hi Ian,
yeah mate, that's a good point.
I certainly wasn't criticising any type of art, and I probably didn't express myself very well, seeing as though I love alien landscapes, good action pieces, etc...
I guess you answered my question though, in that the driving force behind the art doesn't need to be a social issue or that the artist may not specifically have a story to tell. That's a very simplified statement, but you know what I mean. |

When you look at something that is seemingly dark and horrifying.. the topic may seem nothing to do with those qualities you atribute to being lighter and peace like. But remember that the pictures that depict dark subject matter are merely a reflection of it's opposite theme... thus you can look for whatever you're looking for in every picture. _________________ http://jcaart.cjb.net |

It's entertaining. The aliens and creepy stuff (as well as half-naked chicks lying against Conan after a great battle)...
Peace of mind is not what we want as we get into a theater. Or care to pay a little cheap sum of money, like we would pay for a little pocket game or something..
Peace and trust and - to be nearer to God - is something more precious, I think. Like you'd have to travel across the earth to find it. Or at least set sails and go to your cabin to get relaxed or whatever.
I think you preferred more like peace of mankind, love and such but for me that's quite near what I'm about to say.
Maybe a single symbol (Jesus Christ's cross.. or Ying&Yang) hanging on your wall is more art and more about ethical issues than a landscape painting (maybe with some happy/peaceloving hippies in front) trying to achieve the same.
I myself try to love Jesus, as He loves me, and humans as well but I still love to make gory, very violent & depressing works. Some have even be offended by them. _________________ damn you people are making me jealous. |
