i'm all right at doing the illustrate and "paint" thing in photoshop. But i wanna make the move to Corel Painter... but it's just SO overwhelming! Anyone gimme a hand or some pointers or links please?

I teach Painter and have two websites devoted to Painter, PixelAlley (loads of free tutorials for Painter 5, 5.5, 6, and 7) and TutorAlley Forums where we have both open forums for all members and private forums for classes.

You're welcome to visit both sites and ask all the questions you want. The open forums include one where tips and techniques are posted regularly and in the Painter Discussions forum, we talk, share, ask, anything about Painter.

Don't know what version you have, but if it's Painter 8, I'll be teaching classes for that version as well, as soon as I can get up to speed with the released version. I was on the Beta team and don't have the released version yet so I'm bound by the Non Disclosure Agreement and can't talk about it yet.. except for what Corel has made public.

I check in here almost daily so if you post questions here, too, I'll try to respond if I can.

Don't worry, you'll get a lot of help and soon be past the "overwhelmed" stage. I remember how that felt, the first time I saw the Painter 4 interface years ago. It was terrifying!
