I am investigating my options as to furthering my education. My passion is 3D animation and interactive design, mainly 3DS Max and Macromedia Flash. Now, I'm wondering about an online degree? The biggest problem I see would be the lack of involvement with an actual teacher and other students, but would it give me the experience and credibility needed to get an edge on the industry?
I'm not asking for anyone to solve my problem for me, I am wondering if there's any opinions/experiences that you folks can share on the subject.
Thanks! |

Well, it looks to me like we may very well have nothing good or bad to say about it. I'm a bit curious about the online degree thing myself, though pretty apprehensive about the idea of college without a classroom. What's got you motivated into doing it, and what're your particular views on the matter. Maybe that'll help get the ball rolling. _________________ [:: Digital Marmalade! ::]

My case is probably a little odd. I've been away from computers for two years. Before I left I did quite a lot with computers, Windows 2000 tech support, part time web design, etc... Needless to say it's a bit foreign getting back into it.
I have a few schools I'm looking into, and I know some people that could help me get a scholarship, but... to get it I'll need to have some stuff to show. So to save me a lot of money I want to develop an all new website/portfolio/demo reel to have a good shot at a scholarship, and in the mean time if I could take some classes to help me get going that would be nice. So the online degree thing might help? I guess I'm wondering if anyone has any horror stories to tell before I invest in that much time. |
