Had some downtime between the end of one gig and the beginning of another so I painted a little. I'd like to work it some more, but time's up.

Wow, this is one of my fav pics in a long time. She looks dejected but like a rage is surging, It's so cool. I love your use of colour and shading. Love the fact that the shadow falling over her face amplifies her expression of contempt rather than masks it.

The objects are kinda matrixesque which works really well against such a traditional subject matter. The only thing getting to me at all that is worth mentioning is that the objects in her back need finishing as the reflected light is a little off and the skin should maybe pucker a little around the inserts?

Wow, looks great(everything why it's great=> see above). One thing: the inserts are almost perfect circles. This cannot be correct. The body is slightly turned away. The shape should be more ellips-like.

Laughing i overlook the roundness of the plugs on her back .. they kind of add to this opposition within the piece and adds to the movement your eye takes.. i like them.. i think it might be static if they wwere "corrected"

just thought i would say that Laughing

I'd be angry too if I had a 30 pound plug invading my skull. Maybe she just needs an asprin Smile

Very nice. I enjoyed it.

Thanks for the comments guys. There's some fantastic suggestions I want to use. Some of the folks who weighed in are real inspirations to me, so reading the replies was a real treat. I was kinda getting tired of the piece, but now I'm anxious to get back to it.

Nicodemus - Thanks for the observation. I'm always having problems depicting form and mass --it's something I think about a lot but need more practice with.

linzi - Yeah, the expression actually took on a life of it's own. My initial intention was for this to be one of three paintings in a triptych along with an older one I did called mangaphiles. This was supposed to be an "audio" version. However, at a certain point it just became obvious it wasn't going to fit in.

wcduck - Yeah, got a lot of feedback about those. I got too precious while painting those little round bits, which was a big mistake. They just sort of look "stuck on" which cheapens the whole thing. I'm probably just going to repaint them entirely. Kinda ironic, because in my initial sketch they're far more correct. The perspective just deviated as I painted it. No more painting at 400% for me.

gogan - heh heh.

Nicodemus - I can see your point, but I think they need to be fixed. Perspective aside, now that I've set it aside for a day they look like they're painted in almost another style, which bugs me. I wanted them to be a focal point, with a higher level of detail, so it kinda works... just not the way I wanted. I think I can fix it though.

sometypeof - thanks!

hkyyriai - The face is my favorite part too. I started there, can you tell? Wink

Malachi Maloney - Sup Malachi! Yeah, I didn't think the colors were all that spectacular, but my girlfriend challenged me to do something that wasn't brown. Brown? Good practice, nonetheless.

hwslut - thank you.

balistic - Thanks. I need to email you. A few days ago I switched my email off my Mac to my PC and while doing some housecleaning found an old email from you that I never read. Somehow it was date stamped ~ 2 years ago, but by the context of the message I don't think it's that old. Confusing. I think the internet hates me. Anyway, I'm not ignoring you. Smile

egerie - Busted.

ceenda - Mucho gracias, sir. I'll promise to paint more if you do, I love your work.

aColdOldKodiak - Red and green is so "Christmas" if you do it wrong. It's a fine line with that color combo.

Drunken Monkey - I've got this odd preoccupation with mixing sci-fi bits and older stuff. It's still pretty immature, maybe even kinda kitschy, but if I explore it some more it might develop into something cool. I'm indulging myself until that point.

Matthew - how in the hell did member #8309 get his first name on this forum? Wink You're one of a kind, guy. Wink Thanks for the taking the time to reply!

-Pat
