Created in photoshop, in greyscale at first and then colored with different layers/adjustmentlayers.

and here is the sketch in greyscale:

Cheers!

That background is on par with that of the Mona Lisa! Great work as always.

Cool pics.

I love that look you get in these of dull light, like it kind of points out that these Dark Ages warriors live in hard times ....

Reminds me of Frank Frazetta's stuff - which is a good thing!

Keep it up. Wink

Beautiful work, thanks so much for posting them Finer. :] Two minor crits on the first colored one - not evident in the greyscale, his right shoulder/bicep/chest look a little weird in the painting. Also, his helmet is very very bright in the painting compared to everything else. Great work, coloring definately Frazettesque

Amazing stuff,
one thing: his right arm(the first both) is 'lil bit short in relation to his left, i think. Most seen in the greyscale version.
On the third pic: i think if his hand would be scale some bigger it would be seen better, but its only my opinion, and i am not a pro.
Anyway very cool stuff and amazing coloration.
Photoshop 7 ?

I love that textured background on the second pic. Any chance of giving us some tips on how you got that effect?

Lovely and moody!

absolutely amazing, reminds me of Frazetta and Bisley, I have no crits whatsoever, they are both fantastic.

Dude. I have a WHOLE new level of respect for your work. I tried to bite the technique you used here, the painting over grayscale thing, for a comic cover I was doing, and...damn, it's harder than it looks. I ended up just painting over most of the grayscale in colour on an ordinary layer, and cursing myself for trying something new on a project with such a tight deadline.

Your pictures, on the other hand, are absolutely fantastic. And I'm more impressed than ever now that I've seen firsthand how difficult the technique you used really is. Hat RIGHT off.

update: tried to fix what you suggested

Thanks everybody!

agflash: Yes its PS 7

Carter: I used the oil pastel brush in PS 7

william willette: male

Socar MYLES: I only used this technique on a few paintings, it is hard and I end up doing alot of work after the coloring

hey that's awesome works here!

I think that the grey image is best.. I'm talking about expression and volume (lightning).. The latest pic looks not very good as grey color version .. not easy to color, I guess?

small note: do you think that nipples are in right place? Very Happy

Very cool.

But to balance the picture composition wise you realy need to highlight that second blade on his weapon.
