Is there anybody out there who takes this awards serious???
I think the whole oscar stuff has nearly nothing to do with quality.
What's going on there. Is Chicago that good? Better then Lord of the Rings? Chicago gets an oscar for costume design...ahm...well.
I don't wanna say that this movie is bad, but,......you know what I mean......do you?
What are your opinions.....

How can you NOT have enjoyed the awards?!

Man, I had goosebumps! =)

yeah it's so funny to see those actors crying: I am so happy thank you all!! Confused

that's why I am asking, where is the quality.
and why are movies like lord of the rings nominated when there isn't something called quality???

I know one thing that is worser thou, and it is the Melody Festival, not sure what it is called in english. They should face the fact that they cant do anymore good music in those Melody Festivals anyway.
Well ...Dixie Chicks rocks. Very Happy

Hi max, sure Oscars are all about the cash.

But honestly I think youre kinda biased. I mean only caus its LOTR I dont think it should automatically get the Oscar for best costume, sure they did great work and all, but what tells you the costume designers on Chicago didnt do a damn good job when youve not seen it yet? Me did neither, so I dont want to say Chicago costumes are better than LOTR ones, but I dont think that a well done armor or orc-mask should triumph over a well done dress because of the type of it.

I hope I kinda got my point across.

I dunno.. my personal opinion is that Oscars are awards for entertainment. Once in awhile real artsy movies get recognized, but not often. However, rarely do cutting edge movies get recognized for their creativity because the majority of the world doesn't find them entertaining.

I recently saw the flick "Spider". Most of the people were like "gah" once the movie was over. There were comments like it was trash and all, and initially that was my first opinion. However, creative movies usually go against the grain - they force the viewers to accept something different and that's when I understood the genius of "Spider".

Directors like David Lynch usually have some bizarre stuff, but if your throw out all linear thought and prejudice, that's when you begin to see the creativity of the art..

The Oscar's is just a parade for most entertaining movie.. So there's nothing to get worked over it..

yup, that was fun. that and Michael Moore delivering his usual rant.

I dont really mind the academy awards, its just another high-profile mutual admiration society.. let em have their fun and enjoy their antics (and the see-thru dresses of course).

gLitterbug: yeah, i get your point. Yes, I haven't seen the movie, just the trailer. I really don't wanna say that the costumes are bad or something. I just can't beieve that they are better then in Lord of the rings but maybe that's just me...

What I do not understand is why (for example) Lord of the Rings gets nominated if this all is just entertainment?
Why?
I would be happier if such good movies wouldn't even be nominated.

Bare Bonez: good point, I think you are right

hehehehe, yeah, hat's nice of course....
But it shows no quality, and if excellent movies are nomineted to such a award it's just crazy

Indeed faustgfx, that last reply from Max doesnt make much sense to me either...

I mean why the hell should LOTR be NOT nominated at all and why would that make anybody happier?

Lord of the Rings IS entertainment after all and even though its very well done in regards of costumes, locations, camera, special effects and whatnot, all it does is entertain me and not make me think about the sense of life or reveal some truth to me.

"..if such good movies wouldn't even be nominated." - I wonder what you mean with "good"? :/

what can I add.....

I think it's not fair that Lord of the Rings and some other movies don't get any oscars while other movies, which are FOR SURE not better in most of these categories, do get oscars.

So I think It would be better to do NOT nominate Lord of the Rings to an award which does not judge fair.

okay maybe some of you think those guys (whoever they are) nominate right, I don't think so. My opinion of course.....

This movie does much more than just entertaining me. I am a big fan of The Lord fo the Rings and I just don't like awards which judge unfair.

well, maybe you understand me if not, doesn't matter.
life would be boring with same opinions everywhere...whatever

good = what I think is good, others might think different

Max... lotr is another movie but longer. I like the setting, I like the book to an extent and I think the costumes are pretty good, but Chicago looks like what Moulin Rouge was, a film where there are dozens of different costumes in each frame.
I think you'll agree with me if I say that most of the costumes in this film are very similar to the first one and many are quite unoriginal. So, in the special effects Chicago has nothing to do, but in costumes it probably surpases lotr.

maybe you are right.
I haven't seen chicago, should I?
I think it's a quite nice (have seen the trailer) movie but I can't agree with the rating...

"similar to the first" - this is ONE story cuted into three pices because no one (except me) would watch a movie which takes 9 hours...
so why should the costumes be different? - if it's the same story....
unoriginal ? I do not think so, taste I know

but it's just oscar, who cares, I won't till now Laughing

I think you've said it: it's one film. So, why one film should deserve two oscars for costume design?

About the original part... well, many designs are very similar to mayn medieval stories out there. Maybe you could argue that tolkin's story is older than many, but the film isn't Razz

Catherine Zeta Jones wins my award for that short hair.

Even if she looks like she's aged 20 years in the last 5.

by that definition, they should make the new Solaris the movie of the year thanks to the movie's plot skipping most of the book and just concentrating on McElhone's face.

not true!

anyway even if you don't have the slightest clue what solaris is, or who lem is, or that there's a book with the same name that actually has a story inside its covers, the new solaris movie is still fucking piss poor. it's just.. <clooney> :| <mcelhone> =) =( lets death! *suicides a couple of times again* <clooney> :| THE END.

..duh. for fucks sake, if i want to see mcelhone, i'll resort to picture archives on my hd^H^H^H^H^Hthe internet, i don't need a damn movie for that. especially given the high profile producers, actors, directors, all that jazz, it's such a huge disappointment... woulda been cool if they had mentioned the sea in it too!

I've read the book!!

I saw the trailer and I don't plan on watching the film. Looks like a love story, and also a bad one.

Also, jussi, they don't talk about the sea?!?

I said this before. 2 towers did't even deserve any nominations imo. Its slow, boring and it put two of my friends to sleep. First one was great though.
