Hello
As I said in the topic this will be the last song in Fruityloops, I am finding myself to making the same sound and music all the time so I need to start using a new program. maybe Buzz.
I have a bunch of songs now and will make a 3rd and last album with those songs, I appreciate some feedback on this song too. Suck or good or a little good or very much bad. Smile

Thank you

(LATER ON)
i heard it and got some comments.......well it sounds like you're working on an odd number of the bar length...(odd as in weird) cuz usually you wanna work on either 16 bars, 32 or 64...if that makes sense
anyway...your acoustics seemed a little simple...then again its electronica so no surprise...i still think you couldve changed it up a little .....using more sounds wouldve been better...i liked the panning you did with that main sharp sound....maybe thats why your stuff is sounding repetative...because youre not adding enough variation...make more sounds...more patterns..change it up...i use it but i make hip hop beats...i like electronica and techno but i havent tried...what version of FL do you have?
heres one of my recent ones----

I have the 3.11 version with some borrowed sounds so its a bit old.
I usually work at 32 or 64 rows but I have a very complex beat in my songs and I guess its sounds very confusing..hehe. Smile
I have used this program for 2 years now and used fasttracker and stuff before that, but I havent found any inspiration lately with the program so the last song here was more an experiment and I wanted to hear what people thoght of it.
I have 2 albums so far and I will make a 3rd last one and I am thinking of too post the last one here later, maybe in 2-3 weeks, I made the cover picture yesterday so now I will have to mix the songs together and put them down in mp3 format.
Thank you for the comments, thank you.

I liked your song and you had those Cool hip-hop elements, I didnt know you were using Fruityloops either, cool. Smile

See you
Matthew

Hey Matthew and insider! My Fruity brothers Very Happy
Don't despair.. No other program or thousands of dollars will make you a better musician. For example.. you can give a great artist pen and paper, and give some noob most expensive brushes and paints that money can buy, and see the outcome. However (especially in music) good tools and sounds can inspire you to create good sh*t (and im not talking about premade loops :0 )
The biggest mistake that most FL users do is use default FL samples, instruments, and effects. But they are horrible! HEHEHE
Anyways, i've played with FL ~1.5 years making little experimental crap (and i learned a whole lot about FL) but right now i'm diving into HipHop and RnB production headfirst. It's actually damn HARD to sound ghetto and trashy.. hehe
Anyways, with FL i noticed how in the beginning i was making stuff that i CAN do, but not what i WANT to do. Basically i still do that, but in the course of learning i go from 100% of what i can and into 100% into what i want my stuff to sound like.

And yeah.. FL is the only tool for me, and if you dont think it's not capable of being a pro-tool, then check out the startup song in your own FL for techno flavor, and check http://www.littlebrothermusic.com/ for urban flavor (insider especially) there are a few other people who use FL, and it's growing. Especially since FL Studio came out, making it all bigger and better, and it WILL become as recognizable as Cubase & Logic i tell ya!
www.flstudio.com but i'm sure you've heard of it already.

Farewell, my n*ggaz. Very Happy

Hey Shizo. Very Happy

Yeah I remember you said and showed me FL Fruityloops, shouldnt maybe jump to any quick conclusion to quit the program but I want some other sound and perhaps its not the program that makes the musician as you said.
I shall see what kind of program I can find and I will still post some music here when I have made any, but probably with some other program.

I still have the last fruity album to finish so those song will be seen here in the Random Musings. Smile

Thanks for your reply and thoughts Shizo. Smile

Yeha well.. it's a good idea to find a tool that suits you best. So i'm not really saying "TRAITOR!!! FL FOREVA", but implying that in the back of my head.. haha.

So here is the post i made on futureproducers forums:

Quote:
There are some nice things to know about FL that make it much easier to work with the program.
And as we know.. simple = genius (no FL haters allowed lol).
Here are some tips on how to use FL.. and some settings that i like, but it might be just personal things, see if you like it.

Settings:
1. To get rid of the annoying startup sound, go to C:\Program Files\FruityLoops 3.4\Artwork\Skins\Default and delete StartSnd.wav

2. If you dont like how the new sequencer steps look like, go to Options/General Settings/ and choose Skin: Default

3. I usually move out the stupid counter window from top and dragging it by its left edge move out of the visible area all the way to the right (i know.. a small thing but i do it).

4. If you Restore FL window, it will become full screen, so you can be fully submerged into your FL experience Smile it takes some window resizing to get it right though..

5. I like to dock my Sample Browser at the right hand side, because sequencer and Pianoroll wount jump over every time you open Sample Browser.. try it.

6. In Wave Options (F10) select (DS) if your card doesnt support ASIO, but ASIO is always better. Play a song while you change settings.. try checking/unchecking Polling, HW Buffer, and buffer length. See which ones gives you the least latency with no buffer underruns (crackle).

7. I deleted a lot of useless folders in sample browser cause they just clutter up the view, and the sounds in them are horrible. Be sure you know what you're deleting though, cause if you delete some settings, for example like i did and deleted Quantize default setting, it stopped working :0

8. Also go ahead and uncheck the instruments and effects that you dont need. It makes for an easier workspace for yourself to deal with.

9. If you wanna make the Metronome sound quieter, or change it altogether, the file is in C:\Program Files\FruityLoops 3.4\Samples\System

10. If you want to have a nice set of basic samples and instruments that you like every time you start FL, make that setup (even with preset FX.. for example i have FX1, 2, 3, 4 sends filled with default reverb, pan, etc) save the file in C:\Program Files\FruityLoops 3.4\Samples\DrumKits and restart FL in order to load it through File/DrumKits and then it'll open every time on FL startup.

Some general shortcuts:

F4 - Jumps to the next empty Pattern and brings up the name box to name it right away.
F5 - Playlist
F6 - Step Sequencer
F7 - Pianoroll
F8 - Sample Browser
F9 - Effects
F10 - Options Menu

Step Sequencer shortcuts: (make sure that Typing Keyboard is off)
G - brings up Vol/Pan/Cut/Res/Pitch/Shift editor.
G+F - scrolls through each editor parameter
K - keyboard editor
L - Song/Pattern playback mode
Shift+RightMouse on Channel name - rename channel
Ctrl+W - selects and copies entire pattern
Ctrl+LeftMouse on Channel name - channel audio preview
Alt+Up/Down arrow - moves up/down selected channels

Pianoroll Shortcuts:
Ctrl+Q - Quantize
Ctrl+RightMouse - drag selection rectangle
Ctrl+Shift+RightMouse - add more notes to selection
tip: you can edit parameters of just the selected notes, independently from the rest.
LeftMouse+RightMouse - if you work your mouse on that black strip on top of pianoroll, you can select certain areas for seporate playback.. useful with L shortcut when you work on a certain part. RightMouse will change the start and stop location of current selection too.

Playlist Shortcuts:
MiddleMouse - pans around view
0 - speeds up playback while you're holding 0 on keypad
+ / - - jumps to next / previous pattern
/ and * - jumps to next / previous bar
Del/Insert - deletes or inserts new columns from point of selection (so you can point selector with RightMouse on some empty pattern in the middle of the song and add some working space, or delete it).
Ctrl+LeftMouse - selects area to be copied so it can be pasted.. be sure to deselect and bring selector box to the start of where you want to paste
Alt+Up or Down arrow - moves up/down selected patterns.. very useful for organizing (since many people dont realize that you can do that.. even myself, up until recently lol)

Some other useful things that i remember doing:

- In sample editor, click on left top corner to assign that channel to an empty FX track (sweet!).
- Use Attack knob to smooth out Rides and Crash samples
- Use Decay knob to add punch to Kick and Snare samples
- Use some Cut on bass and Kick samples.. and Res on Snare.
- Double click the top of sample editor to restore it to mini mode
- Use the usual windows shortcuts, cause they also work in FL to streamline your work. Stuff like Ctrl+V, C, X all works.
- CTRL+H TO KILL THE SOUND in case you've overused that distortion plugin, or the instrument is buggy etc.
- For precice knob turning use Ctrl+LeftMouse
- Remember to always look at the help line under the File/Edit/Channels/etc menu.. it always gives you some helpful information.

Oh, by the way.. uhh.. CLICK ON THE FRUIT!! *hint hint*

hehe Shizo Smile

Maan you know your stuff, thank you for the tips and stuff.
I gotta say that the program is getting better and better anyway. When I have used the Fruity I have had the 3.1.1 version which I think was released 2001 or something. I tried out one of the newer Demo versions I think it was 3.5.6 and it was very impressive so I can only imagine what the 4th version will look like.
hmm, I am thinking of to purchase a keyboard and I hope maybe that Cubase will go along with that or some other program but first of all I have to pay for my digital camera, so sometime in the future.....
