I welcome any feedback Especially from you matte painters out there. While it wasn't my intention to do a totally photorealistic piece or a matte painting for that matter, I was still going for the basic feel of a photo.
I diliberaly didn't go ahead and finish off the rest of the scene because I thought the contrast of finish to none finished would pop the falcon out a little more. Does it come across that way to you guys or just laziness on my part?
This was just one of those pieces that kept evolving into somthing much larger then what was originally intended. It started as just quick excersise in loosly interpreting an old photograph. But after I did that, it was just begging for a center of intersest so I decided to paint the Falcon in there which led to me later making up a story as to why it's there and adding Han and Chewbacca turning the whole piece into a day in the life of Han Solo. |

Nice to see stuff that gives SW a more realistic feel
The Falcon is accurate and done very well no doubt, as for the bushes in the foreground and the other foliage, it would be really nice if more detail was done to that, it'd create a really impressive Photo-style piece. But that Falcon.. Man. =O |

looks good so far.
Here is a challenge that I know you would get if this was for real and the shot was going to film: paint much lighter. You can get away with murder painting this dark, and it would not transfer well.
Also, check the perspective on the cast shadow of the ship, looks the eyelevel is a little higher than the rest of the pic.
Also the cast shadow edge can be played with. It is being cast on the hard ground, but also play with it being cast onto the bushes. That will get you nice contrast in edge quality. |

Really nice, but as Spooge said, it's a little dark. Also, the sky definitely needs some work. |

It looks realistic to me but I argee with spooge if u use lighter colors it will apear more realistic. and if you made the mountins less colorfull that would help to.
but still I think its a wonderfull piece especialy the airship or whatever it is. it almost looks a 3d rendered.
well done.

Yeah, the pic is dark. Like I said I had no planning going into this. I was just matching the tones to an an old photo. But due to the advice here, I will give careful consideration to value range in the future
I can promise you all the Falcon is not 3D. However should I do something like this again, I can guarentee you it will be--LOL! Edge consistency has been a problem of mine in the past as evidence the mountains against the sky. But I wanted to give careful consideration to the ship. Perhaps I gave it TOO much consideration?
Spooge demon: you are so right about the cast shadow not fitting in perspective. I don't think I would have ever caught that. Thanks!
I'm glad you all liked it. Your cratiques weren't nearly as harsh as I was expecting.
