No. Mullins is a Conspiracy. I have no proof that he actually exists. Do not utter that name again.
The Mullins Conspiracy threatens to consume us all. |

they are making this for xbox too, cuz carmack said its the only console powerful enough to handle it. carmack said the gamecube is for pussies and he didnt want nintendo fanboy crybaby nerds playing his game. and then he said ps2 isnt that much better than psx and psx sucked hardily and lustfully on the balls of donkeys. what an asshole!
=D sweetness! |

Nah dude dont worry about 8x. The improvement over 4x will be two or three frames per second.. Really no difference if at all. It could be useful to have your mobo support that though, when future vid cards actually make use of 8x pipe.
Oh and that latest ATI card is the only 8x card i know.. but it has an awful bug (like all ati cards haha) that it wount boot at 8x on some systems. So beware. |

AGP speeds don't mean much, as games don't (shouldn't) run off AGP streaming. All the geometry and texture data are stored locally on the card, and only when something else comes into view does it need to use AGP to transfer a new texture or geometry to the card from system memory. It shouldn't affect frame rate in the least (though it may somewhat reduce loading times by a very small factor [uploading to video memory in 8x as opposed to 4x or 2x]).
That article is real great. Beautiful shots!
Edit: Just realized that a lot of the geometry transforms (for the characters and shadow hull geometry) I believe are done in software, which means that yes, this geometry (well, vertex position and normal streams) should be uploaded via AGP every frame (though characters and shadow hulls are relativley low poly) for every character on screen. So yes, AGP speed will play a role in this (and only because of this).
Blah.
ReEdit: Btw, that fakkn' magazine cost me 11 dollars! *11* dollars (Canadian) for a damn magazine with a CD filled with misprogrammed beta crap that I won't even bother using as a coaster. What a rip off.

I just ordered a new upgrade, partially in consideration of Doom3. (well, the 128meg card anyhow)
Motherboard - GA-7VAXP: KT400 DDR/400, ATA133-Raid, K7, 5PCI, 6Sound,USB2.0, LAN, AGP8x
CPU - XP2000+ CPU socket462/128k+256K ( TPI reading; 1.67ghz )
Memory - 512M DDR-PC2700: 333mhz (Samsung)
Video Card - ATI Radeon 9000 128M DDR, VGA, DVI, TV-O, AGP4x (OEM)
Sound Card - Sound Blaster Audigy value with i1394 port
Power Supply - 431W with two fans ( EG465P-VE)
It's certainly not the greatest, but for the money, it was great. The Radeon 9000 was a deal!
I can't wait

$980 Canadian, with tax. Atic.ca
I should have gone to Dangeo.com, they have pricematch, and they are out of province so I would've saved 7.5% by not having to pay PST! Oh well.
Though I sent my order in on the 7th and it's still not here > |

Just make sure it all works together (unless it's pre-assembled and tested) because you can't imagine how it fking SUCKS when you find out something that they sent you doesn't work |

The magazines need to stop showing the low-res screenshots and only the high res ones(like the cover image)

I get mine wholesale from a friend who runs his own business who gave me access to his wholesaler..
[edit] and [shizo] just planning for the future with 8x agp. I know nothing really uses it now.. but If I get a 8x Mobo then when I buy a new vid card I can get one down the line that supports 8x.
