A test, I made a 3D rendering first and then painted over it in Photoshop.
It was pretty quick with the perspective done and texture for the rock
The rendering:

Wow.
Seems like an extremely intelligent way to go about doing a pic like this.
Nice work. |

There's not a lot of depth to the piece, presently. Think about adding something closer to the viewer . . . maybe just the tip of a rocky outcrop . . . something that sits in the foreground or near-midground and gives us a reference for how far away the outpost is. If you look at the great landscape painters, that was one of their tricks . . . when painting a scene that is vast in scope, it helps to give the viewer something he can relate to, and that will pull him into the piece.
It's a nice piece as-is, I just think you could push the depth a little more. _________________ brian.prince|light.comp.paint |

Nice piece. I've been thinking of doing the same thing (3d model -> overpaint/rendering) for some time now. What program did you use for rendering/modelling? _________________ www.torsteinnordstrand.com |

Thanks for the replies everyone
Original resolution is 1600x1200. It took about 5-6 hours in photoshop
The texture is actually Bark/wood texture, I didnt find any rock
starglider2: I always save many versions for backup so I have alot of steps. will see if I can post them
balistic: Thanks for the tip!
Torstein Nordstrand: I used wings3D for modelling and max/brazil for rendering _________________ / Anders
