I thought it might be cool to have a thread with work based upon the world of SteamPunk fiction. For those of you who are unfamiliar with the word, it basically means:
Quote: |
... any work of modern Science Fiction which is: set in the Victorian-Edwardian period; imitates the style, themes, and/or content of Scientific Romance, Gothic horror, and Imperialist Adventure; and may use characters from those genres as well. Examples include Dinotopia by James Gurney, The League of Extraordinary Gentlemen comic, and The Difference Engine by Willam Gibson and Bruce Sterling.
|
Steampunk styles often appear in films like Wild Wild West, City of Lost Children (the inspiration for this particular sketch), or the up-and-coming League of Extraordinary Gentlemen.

But any rustic arcane technology will do.

Also, that PC Role-Playing game, Arcanum would be a great example of Fantasy Steampunk. Great thread!! I'm gonna get to work on some stuff! _________________ Staff artist for Realms of Evil games. |

Rhomb: Cool! You got the Victorian style nailed there. Great costume.

I was thinking about doing something in this style recently, but I've got nothing to post yet. I didn't realize it had a name I love the first guy! Great facial structure. _________________ Kelly McLarnon

Hey ceenda, great thread.
I love the coloring and the atmosphere of the first one, although it seem a bit more cyberpunk to me then steampunk. Maybe it's because of the wires or something.
anywayz, my friends and I did a little game demo back in 2001 called "Dampf Mekanika" a la steampunk style . It never went anywhere but it was fun as hell.

i love steampunk... unfortunately i somehow never manage to pull it off convincingly
your robot is cool, ceenda. although, it looks too clean for my idea about steampunk. or is it the official advertisement illustration of the victorian steam machinery mailorder? |
