I am on a router with 2 computer, my roommates and my own. But I want to cap his upstream to like 5.0k because he leaves Kazaa on all the time letting others transfer stuff from him, leaving me with a slow ass connection for games and stuff.
Any ideas on how to do this? My router doesn't have the option from what I can see. If anyone has any suggestions to software/windows settings, or anything else I would appreciate it.

The best way to do it is to hit his komputorbox with a hammer and then yell, "We are the mystical beings of FUCK. Devil money! Devil money! Rise and show me your nametag, whelp!" at him repeatedly.
His bandwidth will be pretty fucked after that. |

That sounds pretty tempting, but then I would be slapped with all of the internet bill. :\ |

It's very likely that it would still be worth it. |

That may be the easiest option.
Some gnutella progs have some sort of upload cap setting built into them.. I know limewire does at least. If Kazaa does you could ask him to set it lower, or pay up for hogging the phat pipe.
I still think asking him to show his nametag would be good though... *snarfs* that was too funny. |

I hope he's using kazaa lite.. :P
anyways Kazaa does have an upload cap. just set it to 64 or 32 or something.
or "accidentally" hit the power button on his box and tell him it was the cat. :P |

It's actually a program called "Direct Connect", shows what I know :\
I've narrowed it down that it's a registry tweak, now just gotta figure out which one. |

Im not sure how routers work, but how can you control it from your ocmputer with a registry tweak? And if you're talking about HIS computer, why not just go into Options/Bandwidth of his program and fix it up there since you have access to his computer? |

Yeah I'd be editing HIS registry, and that option you talk about doesn't exit :\ |

What you want to do is called traffic shaping. Most likely your router does not support traffic shaping. You could replace your router with a Linux box and do the shaping there.
Hit google for 'linux traffic shaping' and you'll find a number of HOWTOs.

Ya it does dude, just look for it. A file sharing program without a bandwidth limit is like a car without a gas pedal. |
