Recently I rediscovered the fascinating universe of Warhammer 40000, which used to be a major inspiration for me during my high-school years. So, this is my quick take on a librarian space-marine: I always felt that even though generally the art of Warhammer 40k is pretty darn amazing, strangely most if it does not seem to put enough emphasis on the bizarrely intricate ornamental decoration of the armor and equipment.

Also, I figured quite a few people here must have their own share of WH40k-inspired stuff, so why don't we start a thread? Wink

As far as the technical side is concerned, this is a completely spontaneous painting: no preliminary sketches or other planning had been done in advance.

I like the recent artwork games workshop has been using. Some of the stuff they has in the recent past kinda annoyed me. Plus I'm not usually into all the cliche skulls everywhere kind of look. But to each his own I guess.

But I did like the Sisters of Battle. A whole lot.

Got really inspired when I read the thread and this is the result:

There are a couple of details I'm not to happy with, but I will probably fix them some time in the future.

Great work everyone.

don't know how it is in the new 40K, but in the old 40K bolt guns were caseless ammo, thus, no cases 2 b ejected out, so many of the artists never read the history or the specs on any of the guns or equipment and chucked case ejection on anyway..

nice pics by all Smile (shame about the cases)

BOb,

I tried to find out if that thing that looks like an ejection port is actually an ejection port or not by going through all the books I could find. It does say they use caseless ammo which is probably why some of the miniatures seem to have the "ejection ports" on the wrong side. There is even new and old art that shows shells being ejected in some pics.

The best answer I got from my emails on the matter is that boltguns aren't manufactured all the same. Nor is the ammo. Some might be caseless, some not.

Gimbal8: i'll see if i have the old book and get the paragraph from it, going back a few years now 1986 i think..

alot of the ejection on the pics shows the shells straight up.. Rolling Eyes if only they some of the artists @ GW looked in2 this stuff b4 drawing/painting - but then if they could employee Wayne England, doesn't really give them much hope Wink

Kev + Karl were the best they ever had, when i used to play Smile

I've always liked the squats myself Laughing

And lets not forget the good old Squat robots and the Goliath mega cannon

And I made a little heavy supporting mortar tank for them too.

I think I started 4 - 5 different paintings with 40k theme today, and everyone ended up in the trashcan. Guess its just one of those days...
