dreaming of the land where the bananas grow. What do you think?
Plant models done in Xfrog, render in Vue.

A subject near and dear! I love bananas. I can talk your ear off about them, I have a bout 50. Dwarf Brazillian mostly, a few plantains, a few chinese. They are really giant herbs, and the largest plant without any woody tissue.
Maybe you could tear a few of the older leaves, they don't like wind much. The dead stalks on the lower trunk tend to fall off if they are maintained. But if they are wild, the old branches hang vertically around the trunk to the point of obscuring it. The trunk tends to be a little thicker at the base, but what you have is pretty accurate for the larger varieties. Also you have all the fruit ripe, which is at the very end of it's life cyle. There would be a lot more dead and mottled areas on the leaves. Or make the fruit much greener. The flower could be a lot larger as well, it is purple and looks just like a football. It would be cool if you could get the translucent feel to the leaves.
Here is some ref for you. I have images at 2500 pix if you want.

Holy there Spooge you must have like the biggest garden in the Galaxy.
I didnt know that there were flowers on a Cluster of bananas, is that on all or just one special banana bunch?
P.S. do you have a picture on only one leaf? (its a little bit hard to see the texture on these because of the sun) that would be great.

Great reference, craig, ... never thought of the "translucent"-part of the leaves, but good to have thought about. _________________ Lars Gtze

Nice muck. i think it's cool. I coulnd't figure out what it was at first (painting photo whatever). It's not so common that people rener 3d stuff so hazy/lowcontrast but it looks real nice I reckon. Cool. I;m not so kee on the banana bunches themselves. They seem to ahve been hazed out to the wrong sort of color... did that make sense? Like the whole though |

Very realistic. I was definitely fooled by it. But if one really tries to find some hints that it is not real then he might find that the leaves are copies from 2 or 3 originals. For the dry leaves I think a modification on the mesh would be enough. For the fresh ones you should use one or two aditional textures or at least place the leaves so that not two with the same texture are right next to each other. Also to put them so that you see one side of the texture on one of them and the other side (left/rigth I mean) of the texture on another one could help too. But however, all this is nitpicking anyway... |
