Posting in the Sijun forums is a bit intimidating with all the amazing work I see here... But here goes...
This is a WIP of a scholar I am drawing, right now I would like to hear what y'all think about the colors and about the basic proportions of what I have so far. I want to know this things before I go on with adding more details, highlights, etc.
Please be brutally honest.
BTW - This is a pencil sketch I drew a few years ago, which I now scanned, resketched digitally and colored.

So many people seen it and ignored it... I really need some crits and comments from you!
Please, say something helpful!
Anyway, did some more work on it so here's a small update.

Completly overhauled his proportions... Made him much thinner and fixed his right elbow (the one holding the book).
What do you think?
Please give me some comments! Help me learn! I really need this help, don't be

I'm just a beginner myself, but I'll take a stab at it... Fist of all, I like the general direction you are taking this piece.
I'm having a hard time figuring out where his sides are... and while the the red edged 'flaps' are interesting, they really flatten your drawing. The angle of the book is a little akward. The arms and body seem short to me for some reason... Maybe it's too wide? Does the flap thing turn into a quasi-cape in the back?
I'd look on google for a similar reference or start with a gesture drawing and build up from that...
I'm a struggling artist also, so don't feel discouraged... practice makes perfect. Hope I did more help than harm. |

Well it looks ok so far. But check his right arm ( the one holding the bible).
Just for you to go over your proportions:
From shoulder to elbow : ~ 1 2/3 head
shoulders go up to 2 head (male)

Seems like my drawing is too out of proportion to be saved... I've already started another drawing, this time using references... I hope this one will turn out better.
Thanks for the help people! I took your advice to heart and will try to use it for my next drawings. _________________ zzzrByte |

And by the way, thanks for http://www.fineart.sk/
I've started reading one of the Loomis books there. _________________ zzzrByte |
