If you don't like it, don't look at it.

If people don't like something, it's their problem. Period. I draw something, sculpt something, whatever, and put it out in public, I do so because I think it's right. People can get over it, or don't look at all.

I'm not looking to start an argument, and won't be checking back here, just so I don't become invovled with one.

But I seriously think thats crap. Like its nothing against the scupter, he did a good job. But god damn of all the poses...
I understand that people do what they think is right but I mean shit its the ugliest thing I've seen in a long long time.

What's really upsetting are all the sincerely dumb comments in the other forum you linked. Really embarrassing ...

Maybe Disney should design a 'sculpture' of the seven dwarfs crying ... that'd make 95% of the US population happy ...

loki, it's not about making people happy or anything, it's about sensitivity. eric fischl the guy that created this is an excellent artist, i have nothing against the guy. i just think it's in horrible taste to do something like this. when something is in public space you HAVE to look at it, this isn't inside a gallery or something where you can choose not to see it. many of the people who walk down the halls of the rockerfeller center Have to see it, a lot of these same people saw the bodies falling from the wtc or have missing relitives. imagine a man wearing a hitler costume going to a synogue (sp?). yes he has the right to do whatever he pleases, but isn't that in horrible taste? or going to a firestation and burning a flag? people have the RIGHT to do any of these things. and you can argue that "it makes people THINK!" ok, now imagine this happened in your country.
let's not get into the topic of what's art and what's not, i'm just an illustrator and i'm not qualified to tell you any of that. this is a strong, powerful, striking piece of art, fischl knows how to get his irrelevant 1980's name back into the papers.
well, that's my point of view, someone is bound to reply to this message and call me a hitler or something.

Actually the saddest part of this is that it was probably the nudity more than any obscure message that was so upsetting to the "poor unexpecting audience" ...

Nudity in the USA is considered dirty and sinful, whether artistic or not, regardless of explicity, nude people seems to be revolting in the eyes of US adults. Nude suntanning on a pulic beach ... or on the lawn in front of your house ??? You'd probably be arrested for indecent exposure ... The exact look of a nude human body is one of the CIAs most closely guarded secrets ...

Yeah right ...

US is home to the worlds largest porn industry ... with estimates as high as $10 billion a year, it boasts the kind of earnings every American business envies.

Kind of ironic ... or was that pathetic ... parents marching to scool libraries to remove books containing stories about teenage sexuality, or sex education, and dad is subscribing to Hustler, and mom will happily rent pornmovies when the kids are at bandcamp ... or whatever ...

The land of the double-moral ...
