if the pic doesnt show up, heres the URL

http://groups.msn.com/Cecilslair/anime.msnw?action=ShowPhoto&PhotoID=10

this is my first post on sijun. im gonna make it with a city in the background, at night, and have lots of searchlights emminating from the buildings and a few gun turrets in the foreground. So far ive only done these clifs and steel wall. (if u havent realized, im makin some kinda defensive city) But what i need help with is makin the part where the rock meets the steel less flat. Crits are very welcome.

I'm gonna try to keep this updated, but m.s. keeps me busy.

I think it would help to approach this completely different Confused
It's too blurry and looks as if you just got Photoshop and played a little with it.
I don't see any potential. Maybe your explanation doesn't help. Could you post a sketch?
Btw I think the rock meets steel part is not the biggest problem ...
Light and shadow don't make any sense as far as I can tell!? And so on ...

I guess i wasnt very clear. See, u no where the door is openin up? There are gonna be floodlights there. Im gonna make a heack of a lot more shadowing/highliting and sharpen up the cliffs and the mud at the bottom. And also, the cliffs and wall are not the focal points of the piece. Im gonna make the city in the bg which will be the main part of the pic. I'll post my sketch in a biit. I guess next time i should post something after ive spent 15 minutes on it, huh.

o im gonna make this one of those progressional thread type things. I posted this current pic to show how i started out. It isnt any where near complete.

Ok. But more about the different approach advice. You shouldn't have worked on the lighting at all at that stage I guess. You know the tutorials that are mentioned here very often? You should block in the colors first. Of the whole image! If you add details you'll hesitate to get rid of them later. At least I always have a hard time doing that.
And I'd also think about a more interesting composition. No matter what the city in the distance will look like ... I think the foreground will take away from the image.

i see what ur talkin about. im gonna start a new pic, but this time ill stick color on the whole thing, not on sections. I'll also work on a different layout to make it more interesting. Thanks for replying, andy. u've been a good help.

I'll post the new v in a few days. school keeps me busy most of the week so it may be take alittle longer.

peace
