I had Chance to work on High-end Compositors from Discreet Flame and Discreet Combustion and 5d Cyborg V2. The GUI of that software is by far the most user-friendly you will ever find, and that makes the software easy to use and most important Don't interfeare with your your workflow. In 5d Cyborg (it is very sad , 5d went down) you can Hide unwante parts of interface with mouse move. In addition to all, everything is very interactive and engaigin (especially color Correction tools). Photoshop is now version 7, and the interface is just Sux, old School stuff. It is still not possible to Change tha shape of Tools Pallete, change the color of the interface, Build your own Toolbars or at least making it possible to customize the Toolbar

See how everything is build up. That is what I wish Photoshop would Look like. Maybe I am missing something correct me if I am wrong, maybe someone invented plug-in to change the interface[/img]

Well, that GUI does look snazzy...

I've been using PShop since version 3, so I'm pretty use to it.
It doesn't get in the way of my workflow... Use the actions to control
palettes... Also. use the Workspace option under the Windows menu
to save multiple palette placement setups.

And, above all, get a two monitor serup... Cool

Im using PS since version 3.0 as well but I also miss the possibility to customize the GUI of PS. They change the shortcuts with every version so you never can get used to them. 3DS-MAX is a good example here. For a software as old as PS I would expect a better GUI. Some function got worse and worse with every version (like the text tool). Im not saying the GUI is really bad, in fact you have quite some freedom there, but customizable shortcuts would be so nice. This and "autosave"!!!

Complete BS, Potter ...

Photoshop is a paint package and Flame/Inferno are compositing packages.

Whereas the discreet GUIs are pretty cool (and were inspired by old Quantel machines like the Henry, etc. ...) they end up using up too much screen estate.
Matador/Parallax, an older SGI paintpackage had a similar interface but was a pain in the ass because it ate 2 3rds of the screen.

When I'm painting I want to see the canvas as big as possible and not have screen space pissed away by a gray background of a 'cool' GUI ...

Yes, the PS GUI could be better, but it's already not bad. A second monitor is what you want.

yepsir... double ditto on the 2nd monitor... For whatever you're doing on a computer, if you're in it for the long haul, setup a 2nd monitor....

HAHA
My wish came true......there is a plug-in for Photoshop it is called Interface Improver. What it does is it hides Palletes automatically!!!! and everytime you want to acess the pallete, you just weave your mouse to the edge of the screen where the pallete is hiden ! It keep the monitor clean of those nasty palletes Smile

I found another great thing. Programmable keypad with 98 keys !!! Usefull thing for working in Photoshop. I will order it in a day or so.

Yes... hit the TAB key and all palettes hide... hit it again and they reappear. TAB is a toggle Smile

Also, in PShop 7, for a nice little surprise, hit the ENTER key right after hitting the TAB key when hiding the palettes...

I would think twice before buying a mac, Harry. I have owned macs since the 512k fat mac, I know them well. I have also watched the PC world get its act together, so now it is the world versus some (very good) engineers in Cupertino.

This is just my experienced opinion, feel free to disagree, I won't argue.

But do buy the monitor...

edit- hey loki, are you going back down to Weta? ESC needs a good MP.
