I found an old 15 inch monitor in my room hehe.. and I want to use it with Photoshop. I will need to buy a second graphics card to use with it.. Which inexpensive card should I get?
The cheapest one that I could find at newegg.com was:
ATI Xpert 98 8MB PCI VIDEO CARD - OEM Powered by ATI RAGE graphics technology Brilliant 2D Graphics up to 1600x1200@85 Hz 32-bit true color 3D graphics up to 1280x1024
Specifications:
GPU:ATI RAGE XL
:MEM:8MB
BUS: PCI version: Pentium/Pro/III/II, Celeron or compatible with 33 MHz & 66 Mhz (PCI local bus 2.2 compliant)
Operating Systems Support:Windows XP, 2000, ME, 98 Windows NT 3.51 & 4.0
Max Res: 1600x 1200x75Hz at 16.7M colors
Max 3D Res: 1280x1024 at 16.7M colors
for $33 ...
Would that be good to use for a second monitor?
oh.. and I have a Pentium IV .. that should work right? |

meh.. I can spend $20 more and get a Geforce4 MX 440 with 64 MB RAM..
oh.. and also wanted to know.. how can do you move the mouse cursor from one screen to the other?
I have a tiny Wacom.. would that be split into 2 if I add 2 monitors? or will I be able to use the whole wacom for the main monitor? |

any card will do for your second monitor. the one you mention sounds just fine. no need to spend the 20$ more. although i'm not too happy with the picture quality my ati-card(radeon) is giving me. switched from a voodoo5 some months ago. might be just me though.
how to move the cursor from one monitor to the other: move your mouse. that might do the trick.
the wacom would split by default, but in the settings you can limit its range to any area you want, so you can use your whole wacom for the main monitor. _________________

yay.. I got an ATI Xpert 16 megs from CompUSA for $10 because I won a draw and got $20 off.. whee..
Dual monitors are great! .. all my instant messages, MP3 players, Photoshop Tools go on the small screen.. and the other monitor has a full screen image on there.. whee |

I be all like, need another video card, pour la new monitor. And I bes all like, go to compucentre, speakings my bad english. ANd theys be like, you need a video card? and i's do like, buy an ati radeon, and is nice.
but.... seriously
I got a Radeon 7500 for my computer to support another monitor. I was kinda limited cause I don't have an AGP slot in my system for an amazing graphics card, but... this one wasn't half bad. It supports my second monitor "great-ly" and works fine with games and such...
no, like...
I do like giving the man 'is mony, and i brings home my card an' puts it in compooter. and is work nice. _________________ girls like shining |

oh, and also, i use a graphire2 tablet over the two monitor span, and though it may be a pain in the ass cause it's all messed, par se, it's still a good idea. the pros overcome the cons, so to speak. it's a deal, not to be bargained with, as one would say. it's like, Two heads are better than one, one may explain. but it's nothing like, Twos a company, three's a crowd...
cause...you know... ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ girls like shining |

tilokani, bahahaha, yea, tell him how many other cards you went through just so you could play nolf2
but yea, just about any card should work, and since I'm guessing you've already got some nice card in the agp slot, there shouldn't be a point to getting the geforce. The tablet stretching will suck, but thats what you get with the graphire 2.
haohmaru, I doubt he'll be limited by the videocards picture quality, hes planning to use an old 15" which is probably rather shatty...
edit- you already doooded it, but uh. enjoy. |
