Very nice work on perspective and detail! I guess I'll chip in my measely two "sense" and offer that perhaps lighting a bit more dramatic on the Synagogue would be cool, but not necessary Good work on creating the feeling of the environement. Keep it up! _________________ Crimson Crescent |

Nice drawings, great perspective work, and the lighting makes sense. The only issue here really is not much thought into the intimate side of the designs, that is, there is very little personality, and very little connection to its greater purpose, and its regional location.
Let me explain. The one design is supposed to be an African Princes hubble. It doesnt feel noble. It doesnt feel African. It feels midwest, old west style architecture with african motif for the interior design. From images I have seen with primitive dwellings, or african architecture, the struts and beams are more along the lines of a round column, an entire tree shaved to create the support, not squared off 2 x 4 boards. Stairs are usually made in earth, mud, clay, what have you. The walls would feel more organic, and the design of the structure would be less two story, and more a one room flat. The african homes are built on the ground, flat, typically, with earthen walls, some sort of defense doors, and low ceilings. I dont know why, but most of the architecture I have researched has this feeling in it. With exception to where they cook, and the ceiling is arched with a single chimney in the middle.
The room should also have accutraments and other details that feel uncommon, that is more royalty trinkets. The bed would be positioned in a central location with everything surrounding it, as the prince is the center of his universe.
the synagogue is nice, but I feel it is missing the added details that would make it feel religious. This looks as though it could be a theater, much like a shakespearian theater. Rather than stock cut beams on the wall with the main arch, I would think they would have religious filigry and such to make everything within the temple feel sacred, and again, uncommon.
Again, I am not bashing the images, I really like the renderings, you have great skills, especially in the technical department. What I am saying is, rather than reach for the common, and often misunderstood design, go for details, good healthy research on the subject, and not just pictures, read about what it is you are creating to get the essence of feeling within the design. Francis Ching has wonderful books on architecture. I would pick a few up, especially the architectural dictionary, you get a great idea of so much design, and what the purpose of the design is...
Hope that helps. See ya

Thanks guys for the great feedback.
Fred:
You pretty much nailed it for the African prince home. The house is not in Africa it's in a typical European style dwelling. The African prince is far away from home and is living abroad. He has gathered some of his favorite belongings (war mask, Ivory tusk bed, traditional stove, ect) to make his stay in the new world homely
I agree with your comments 100% on the synagogue. I found it very difficult to find the period pieces I needed for reffrece for this concept. I should have spent a little more time filling up and decorating the hall.
Thanks again for all your feedback. |
