YES. OpenCanvas = nipple-icious fun

I could go into a big rant about wacom pressure sensitivity in Linux, but even at work I'm not that bored right now.

considering gimp is a FREE program that is essentially a vastly lacking Photoshop clone...

Matthew - I don't know where I downloaded it. It's free.
http://www.gimp.org/~tml/gimp/win32/

But I just use it because I can't afford a better program. I guess I'll use painter classic if I ever buy a tablet.
I read somewhere that tablet support is even worse in the windows version (maybe tablets are not supported at all?)

The tablet suport for the gimp in windows seems very broken :/. I had an experiment with it last night and made this.
http://raq626.uk2net.com/~lionel/me81.JPG
After I turned off the tablet support (all the presure sensitivity etc) and just used it like a mouse it worked a whole lot better. I really hate having to set opacity by hand as I am used to using presure for senseitivity so I painted it all at 100% opacity which is why it looks so bad Wink. The GIMP itself needs some serious work on the interface (you can see that the people using it are not used to having a tablet) as far as features go it seems to have enough basic features to make it a perfectly reasnoble alternative to photoshop if you are just trying to learn how to paint digitally because lets face it you really don't need many features to do that. If you have a mouse an no cash I think you could do a lot worse than use the GIMP (it is always nice to support free sortware Smile ) but if you have a tablet then they need to fix the tablet support in windows (I here it works in Linux) and fix that god damm awful interface Smile.

Maybe it's not a good place for a discussion like that but there are a lot more things that bother me. For example the brushes. They are not scalable so you have to create a lot of normal round brushes for high resolution images. And there should be a combination of image pipes and brushes. But I really think the smudge tool is great!
I agree about the interface Sad . And what bothers me the most, is that the color selection window sometimes doesn't pop up and you have to click it in the toolbar Sad

I used to run GIMP when I had Red Hat Linux as an OS on my computer.
I wasnt aware that they had fixed a version for windows, very nice. Smile
But its true, it is a clone of Photoshop.
Thanks for the link AndyT

Peace
Matthew

I use PhotoImpact 8, which I prefer to PS 7.
And I also use PaintShop pro because it loads instantly and has the fastest image browser.

It's really a shame that Gimp lacks such important features... That's just one of the few reasons I don't switch to Linux...
Well that... and not being able to run Photoshop 7 not even with Wine (a program that lets you run windows programs in Linux)

Me (H)ate Windows... slow slow crash crash slow slow crash crash argh! argh!
