Hi, these two are quick paintings I think have potential and would like to finalize. Any critque comments would be appreciated. And anyone know a good way to get a nice textury bark feeling please enlighten me. I've tried all kinds of brushes but nothing really gives it that course look. I have no idea how to make my own brushes or where to start so... um... yeah. help!
Also, the overal contrast of both images just seems off, maybe too dark? I don't know. Suggestion, help would be appreciated.

the second one is really good. Interresting colors and style. There are some problems with the first one. The clouds look too heavy. Try not to blur the colors to mix them together, but use more colors instead.
check this link for cloud tutorial:

I think the sky is too dark. Don't use plain black, but try a very dark blue..THen you'll be able to add some variation and avoid the flat effect of a monocromatic sky. |
