so i have bought myself a dvi->vga converter today, and hooked my old 17" monitor to the dvi of my radeon 8500.
although the monitor is recognized by windows and shows up in the hardware list, it doesn't show me any picture. i have done all necessary settings(i think), and the desktop actually does stretch over two monitors now(i tried by moving the mouse or any windows over to the second screen), but there is no picture on the second monitor.
operating system: win98
graphics-card: radeon 8500
monitors: 19"philips 109p4, 17" samsung syncmaster 750p
anybody else had a similar problem, or knows how to help me? _________________

recently got a two monitor setup, and while tweaking it noticed that the signal on the older one goes out when the refresh rate is out of its range.
since I got a 21" and a 15" it did have quite a difference in the resolution and refresh .. try going to the Display tab in the radeon settings and change it for each monitor
I use the dvi converter on a radeon 7500 having no problems at all
hope it helps! |

your samsung supports a res of 1600x1200, and ur phillips does 1920x1440..
what res are you trying on the monitors?

Attaching two displays to the RADEON 8500 offers you the ability to extend your desktop. The extended desktop mode is available with the Windows 98, Windows 98 SE, Windows Me operating systems. In doing so you can increase your productivity by having different applications on different displays or even span an application (i.e., spreadsheet) across both displays. In effect you receive twice the display area resulting in increased efficiency and flexibility. HYDRAVISION Multiple Monitor Management Software makes using multiple displays easy and further increases your productivity by adding features such as hot keys, multiple desktops and a Desktop Management pop-up menu. For more information on HYDRAVISION |
got that from the ati website, so my Q is: have u installed Hydravision? |

i have a problem similar to yours, but not exactly the same:
i had windows 98, matrox graphics millenium g200 and proview 15" monitor (not sure what's the serial name), and i was able to go up to 1600*1200*16bit or 1280*1024*32bit (on win98). (its a damn good monitor for a 15" huh..)
then i formatted and installed win XP pro (2600).
for some reason, i cant increase the resolution (on the same hardware) higher than 800*600*32bit. i mean, in the display properties, it lets me, but when i select 1024*768*16bit the monitor just goes blank!! and when i reboot i cant see nothing after win XP loads. blank! i see the bios and all but xp is blank. even the login screen.
anyway, what i have to do is go to safe mode to change it. sucks huh?
if anyone has a clue, it will be appreciated.
my solution to haohmaru is: try to enter windows in safe mode and see if you can see anything there, or at least, set the two displays for the lowest resolution/bit-depth/refresh-rates to see if it works then. |

thats all well and good advice, but if he doesn't have the ATI software running then its not going to work.. |
