Every time i try drawing cars, it just doesn't look right. No matter how i draw cars, i just dont make the shapes right. What type car drawing techniques should i apply to my car drawings in order to get the shapes right? Are there any FREE(im a cheap bastard ) references over the internet that could teach me how to draw phat cars?? _________________ By fred22smartass

I don't think there's any easy way around it. You need the fundamental understandings of shape / 3d form and perspective of course. I think most ppl would say that you should try something easier to draw in the beginning (which is true), but you want to draw cars so its a good motivational point for you to learn to draw. Try looking at the perspective tutorials at www.drawthrough.com they give some great tips and processes for common questions and you'll hopefully find the techniques really hit home on the concept of building a structure up from the basics. Most really complex shapes are just extensions of a simpler form, so the tutorials at that website show how you can construct complex curvy 3d forms on a rectangular structure. I hope that helps. |

There's an awesome book called "How to Draw Cars like a Pro", by Thom Taylor. I think he might have been a lecturer at Art Centre. Anyway, whilst the book isn't completely comprehensive, it's got some great starter tips on going about vehicle design, from the basic sketches through perspective to finishing tips. There's even a little section on computer based design. |
