Just wanted to contribute some. It's not finished and it's gonna take some time before it is, but I'd like your c&c.

Like the drawing, but I'm going to be a bit critical on the crit. BUt it will be helpful, hopefully.
First off the head looks a bit odd, I think due to the fact that it's a tad too big for the body. Basicially if you use a line parralel to the plane of the face, that's where it should be. Try to fix the jawline as well, it's a little too steep.
Her arm encased in the stone is a bit dislocated. It should be closer intot he body more and the shoulder should be defined differently. Try and imagine her skeleton underneath all the flesh. Also her breasts seem to be sitting a little high. The line of her right (on her right) breast should be followed better by the clothing. Basicially it should follow the line that you have the shade at more. But still, pull those breasts down a little bit.
Last of all is her hips, or her lack of them. You can argue that the cloth is hiding them froom view, but part of that wispy cloth should be following her figure down there. It also gives the bikini line something to divide or follow visually. The claf that you can see: again, in reality it should be following the line of the shadow and not the drawn line.
The big problem I have with the picture though, is why she would be in that position in the first place. I don't know, maybe it's me trying to explain everything, but being bound on the two surfaces taht show wouldn't make sense to me, and the positioning of the body doesn't really either. This maybe my quirk, but when I'm drawing I like to imagine the place that my charachter is at or where they are inhabiting. It lets me get a feel for the way they would react and the way they would move. Just makes it feel more real I guess.
Ah well, there's my two cents. Take it or leave it, but I like where you're at so far. |

Thanks for the comment guys!
Faeklone: I see you comment, I'll use it. If not in this picture then in the next!
About the position: I'm not the kinda guy thats got a huge story or big artistic idea's behind it. I draw something because I just think that at the moment. This just crossed my mind in some way I have NO idea why she's made/going into stone.
I know what you mean with moving and reacting, I try to do that too, but sometimes something crosses my mind, and I don't feel like making a story behind it so I just draw.
Thanks again for the critics, it was most helpfull! |
