Hi all,
I saw the movie yesterday, loved it! Gollem has got so much caracter, action around helms deep realy ruled! The legs of the ents were weard though.
Legolas has a way too small part imho. Gimli now rocks because of the humor he brings into the movie.
I loved Miranda Otto as eowyn, great (looking) actress. Great acting work.
I'm so inspired but I'm not such a great artist that I can draw from memory. Does anyone know a site with images out of the movie?
And second I'dd love to hear opinions about the movie from some true artists.
thanks,

I think that the Director Peter Jackson has made a very good decision in centering his movie on the battle at Helm's Deep. The book upon which this movie is based revolves mainly on the separate episodes Aragorn, Legolas and Gimli have as a team (the unification of Rohan) as well separate subplots for Pippen and Merry (the introduction of the Antes) and last but not least the ring bearer-Frodo and his friend Sam.
Each separate encounter draws the plot together by helping unseemingly to intergrate the largest alliance in the world of men. In effect, the movie does exactly what Tolkein described in the book by uniting the strongest territories and kingdoms: mainly Rohan and Gondor. What is special about the way Peter does it is in his utter reliance on excellent acting using special effects ONLY to serve or amplify either the best in humanity or tragically, the worse traits. Camera angles best solved in the previsualization stage have greatly determined the movie's flow and dynamic visuals.
Except for the obviously computer generated Gollem whose acting is indeed quite masterful, many of the effects are invisible relying mainly on great cinematography and lighting. Peter so deftly suspends our disbelief that at times, although awkward at first to encounter, it indeed does become easy to accept animated trees with rootless feet, flying snake/dragon wraith creatures and fuzzy Orc-ridden rats.
The movie is excellent and the powerful reintroduction and weaving of Gandalf into the story and climax - a well-thought out delight!
Finally, the story is a little long on the bum but thanks to Peter's decision to reintroduce elements from Rivendale, it's even more enjoyable than the book and far richer an experience. I think Tolkein would've been proud.
That's just MY opinion!

Just saw it yesterday.
I never read the books, so I can only evaluate a movie. And as that its really long, needlessly slow and often boring. The first one was better imho. The whole Gandalf the white deal seemed a little silly. Legolas could have had better parts. He really kicked ass in the first one. Orcs didn't seem as menacing.
The final battle was pretty good, although i imagined it could have been a little more intense. CG kind of spoils everything with fake looking physics.
What totally blew me away was Gollum. That thing looked alive. The skin, the animations, acting, voice, everything was perfect. The schizoid parts were he tries to banish his bad self are my favorite. |

What Dr. Monkey said. Gollum is definately the star of the second movie, his mimic is better than everyones elses. The shizo scene comes somewhat into, perfect! The most characterful actor I ever saw in a movie, and it's completely CG'ed!
Im curious how long they took to render him for the whole movie, must have been quite some hours. ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) |
