Does anyone have experience with these ? My old wacom penpartner is dying, and I can't afford a large intous at the moment, so I thought these might be ok, they are a LOT cheaper than the wacom ones...
http://www.trust.com/products/frame-product.htm?artnr=12579
My main concern is if it works with the programs I use (painter, Corel photo paint) and if it's reliable (compared to the penpartner).
Any advice would be appreciated. |

i'm using trust 400 for 8 months now. This is my first tablet. After first week of using it the pen cracked in the place showed on the pic (now its taped with sticking tape)
the green button on the pic is in fact two buttons, so the red thing isn't the button - there is no eraser there or anything its just a pice of plastik.
the bottom of the tablet is curved !! (because it's done pretty crappy)
the biggest diffrence betwean the inutos and my model - at least for me - is the data transfer. trust got half what intuos got so the sketching is even harder but i was playing with wacom only on cebit and it was before i've got the trust so its hard to judge that parameter for me.
another thing that i think is broken in my tablet is when i make a line and then undo it sometimes it cancels only half of it as if the tablet would stoped and started to work while i was doinng that line. + sometimes instead when i click the comp thinks its a double click.
i heard that trust don't do the tablets they just buy it from the aiptek. And this could be true cause they look the same !!! anyway my friend got the aiptek that looks exactly as my trust but he says he got some problems with it so i don't know if aiptek is a better solution.
I worked with painter and photoshop with no problems in instalation onor any problems with detection of the device.
anyway I don't think it limits my painting skills jet. But i dream about the wacom
sorry for my spelling but i can't spell even in polish. _________________ portfolio | art blog |

Thanks for the replies guys, I'm just going to buy one of the cheaper, smaller Wacoms again. _________________ HardCoil

Think of it this way. Ur eventually gonna get a good wacom tab, right? So why waste the money on one that isnt nearly as good? If ur gonna get it anyway, then dont waste the money on the worse one becuasethe money'l help u get the wacom faster. |

i forgot to mention that my tablet isnt completly flat on the surface where you use pen.
i thnik the new/bigger trust isnt much diffrence.... If you got little money buy the 400 if got more buy wacom, atleast i would do it like that. _________________ portfolio | art blog |

Yeah don't got much money I'm afraid... But the Trust 400 costs like $115 here, and the Trust 1200 costs $140... I might as well buy it? I wouldn't dream of getting the Wacom tablet right now, not even the A6 version, costs about $360...
Maybe if I ever get a job I'll manage to scrape together enough for a Wacom sometime... I've never used a Wacom or any tablet for that matter so I won't know what I'm missing out on if I start with a Trust? |

Might be, but whats the size of it? And by the way, when I say "here" I mean in Norway... I just did an estimated $price from the norwegian one...
There's not many local shops or norwegian internet stores that sell Wacom either:( |

I also meant the estimated $price. It small. I don't have a tablet.
But I read pretty often that the size is not that important. You should go for the Wacom I guess... _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

Ok, I just found a store that sells a Wacom Graphire 2 "ca. A5"
The price is $166... Guess thats an ok price, but doesn't size matter? I mean isn't it "hard" to draw high-res images on such a small tablet? And how does a tablet work, does it cover the entire screen when drawing or is it an area of the screen, also is the graphire 2 tablet/pen pressure sensitive? |

It is pressure sensitive! I think others can answer the other questions...
but I think the price is not ok ![Exclamation](images/smiles/icon_exclaim.gif) _________________ http://www.conceptworld.org |

I'll try to see if I can't find some norwegian artists and ask whether they know where to get a decent tablet for a decent price... Maybe there's someone in the forums here? |

the tablet sizes itself to the screen, so for example i run my monitor @ 1600x1200 pixels, my little bitty Art Tablet II runs perfectly well with it, without going off and lookin @ wacoms site i think the tablet has a res of 1024 pixels per square inch, which is more than man enough to handle that kind of res..
when working with high res files, there isn't a monitor that can show an A4 page in its entirity @ 100% 3508x2480.. so naturaly you'd use the zoom function when working on detailed areas.. |

Thanks B0b, guess I'll be going for a graphire 2 "ca. A5" tablet then...
Another thing, how do you know where the cursor is? Isn't it like drawing something without whatching the paper? Or in this case you see the "paper" but no pen... |

check on pricewatch for referbished wacoms from little companies. I got a 6x8 intuos referbished (with a warrenty) for about 70% of the usual retail price and it has worked fine for me for over a year. |

What where huh? I got about $320 by the way but I'm gonna buy a PS2 or a XBOX too so I don't wanna spend more than $150 if necessary...
I e-mailed a norwegian artist earlier today named Joachim, he has done some stuff for Project IGI and Valve products + lots of more great art...
He gave me an address to a norwegian site where I can get a graphire 2 for about $150... Now that might be a bit expensive but thats the lowest possible price I can get on a graphire 2 here in norway... My last chance would be buying from another scandinavian country like Sweden or Denmark... So if the shipping isn't too much and the tablets are much cheaper I might order one... |

i have a graphire1 and its the only tablet i ever purchased.
i can tell you it isnt as good as my friends pen partner. the pressure sensitivity is only okay and the nib/eraser dont slide in/out as soft as the penpartner ones.
i bought it online from the wacom site and had it mailed to a relative in the usa who brought it over to me when he came for a visit.
it cost 99$ +10$s&h (its okay i guess.. you get a mouse too, but i never used it). if you have a relative in the usa you can do the same.
my advice to you is to try to locate a store in your country that imports wacom stuff. if there is a store in israel that imports wacom tablets then surely there is one in norway.. just have to look. i didnt know there was a store like that in israel until a few weeks ago when my friend found one because he needed nibs.
oh.. there is also a new wacom product called volito, and you can also try to see in the wacom store if they sell the graphire1's i remember when they came out with the graphire2's they sold the 1's for 49$ and i was pissed for buying mine for 99$ |

whats the differences between volito and graphire 2? The volito pen doesn't have an eraser does it? |

Thanks for the links, I didn't exactly do a heavy search, and most sites I found was very expensive or for business purpouse only... I'll check out the links and see if there might be some possibilites... How did you find the sites by the way? I'd like to find some norwegian sites that sell those Aiptek and Nisis tablets... |

I'm thinking to get an Aiptek 8'x6', it's about same price of a wacom graphire 4'x5',
unlike wacom it needs aaa battery in the pen, but the weight wouldn't bother me much.
Go to google.com and search 'norway aiptek supplier' should give you a number of links. |

The Aiptek 12000U
and Trust 1200 tablets
are the same... Only differense is that the Aiptek uses batteries with the pen, which makes trust seem a bit better... So I called a local store in my city, they said they could order a Trust 1200 for me, around $150... Now if the Trust tablet/pen brake after some time I got the warranty and the store has to take care of it. They also said that they have sold some Trust tablets before and never had any complaints, yet:)
The pen has that 512 step pressure sensitivity thing and no eraser... But I believe the size of the tablet, A4, makes up for that, it has a good resolution too... As mentioned I've never experienced the glory of a Wacom so the Trust should do just fine for now right? Who knows, maybe I become rich and famous and then I'll get a Wacom Cintiq 18SX... _________________ Time out of mind

I am on a crusade .... and I even have the audacity to quote myself from another thread ...
How do you know what tablet to choose ????
Quote: |
I think there are a few questions you should ask yourself to find the answers to the standard Wacom / tablet questions.
Brand/features
1. Are you :
---A: an accomplished traditional artist with a very refined touch ?
---B: a beginner/amateur, both in traditional and digital painting/sketching ?
If you answer A you should probably go for the Wacom deal, if B is your answer you you would (read:should) be more than happy with a less expensive (100US$-150US$ depending on size) alternative, to call it a good deal.
Tablet size
2. When you sketch/draw/paint do you :
---A: use your whole arm to draw, and generally draw large drawings (A4 and up) ?
---B: like to draw small, using mostly your wrist for the lines ?
This second question should give you the pretty obvious answer that if you are in the A category, get a big tablet, and if you're in the B category, you would be happy with a smaller one.
... and finally, when in doubt, Always remember that "the tablet question" is one of the most asked questions here, and you'll be able to find a ton of previous advice by using the search feature in the top right of this window. Just enter "tablet" or "Wacom" and search in the discussion forum, and ye shall find. Nobody likes a lazy Digitalist ... |
In any case the Graphire2s 3.65" x 5" drawing area is TINY ... and although there are hordes of loyal Wacom enthusiasts here on Sijun, I continue to think that Wacoms Graphire2 series is NOT such a hot deal ... Wacoms are NOT fault free, as you can see from a hundred troubleshooting posts, very few computer peripherals are ... Wacoms Intuos2 series IS the most sophisticated drawing tablets as far as I know, and when compared with the Intuos2 most other tablets will loose miserably, as long as you don't consider price an issue ... but you pay dearly for it ... and in spite of what you may hear/read, Wacoms break too ...
For a beginner who may very well look at the artwork here on Sijun and mistakenly think that "Damn ... if only I got a big-a$$ Intuos2 like these other guys, I will be the Master of the Universe!!!!", well, unfortunately that will most probably not be the case ...
There are artists here who spent the money already and THINK they are the masters already, whether that is true or not ... but most of those could have achieved the same results with a 10 year old crap serial tablet with a corded pen weighing 6 kilos, from Stinky Dinghy (made in Botswana). (Yeah, I just made that up ...)
also ... check out these previous threads ... (where I also wasted my time with this subject ... )
http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=15372
http://forums.sijun.com/viewtopic.php?t=15347
As for the "battery in the pen is horrible..." myth, consider this experiment, a Wacom pen weighs 12-13 grams, that is roughly the same weight as a regular pen. Now, put a pen in your hand, close your eyes and try to feel the weight, now do the same with 2 pens because that is similar to what the pen with the battery would weigh ... notice any difference that would be detrimental to your masterful strokes ??? I very much doubt it ...
Being a Norwegian and all, I guess it is some sort of socialist ideas that goes something like this, why would you want to spend a million on a Mercedes Benz when a Toyota will do the same job ?? for a 10th of the price ... sure; it's neat to have 400hp, satelite navigation system, a drink cooler and a LCD TV screens in the back seat in the Merc, but is it really worth the extra cost ??? Maybe if you're Michael Schumaker, but most of us are not, nor will we ever be ...
OK .. I'll piss off now ... ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ "Ya cain't rush Art" - Geri, Toystory 2 |

Thanks for your words of wisdom HawkOne;)
Well, I wouldn't call myself a beginner, but no professional neither...
Usually when I draw in real life I use A4 size and up, when I paint I mostly use A3's, and yes I use my whole arm... So I guess an A4 tablet is what I should get, but in the $100 - $150 priceclass.
About the pen issue, I don't think the weight would bother me, but when I can get two identical tablets for the same price (1. Aiptek 2.Trust) one with batteries another without, I'd go for the one without, mainly because I'd have to buy new batteries now and then...
So now I'm getting the Trust 1200 tablet (?) ![Smile](images/smiles/icon_smile.gif) _________________ Time out of mind
