Hey guys,
I see some people here need an image host and I happened to obtain a refurbished server - 800 MHz. Anyway, I want to setup a web host for the folks here so people can store images and link them to the forum, but I only have a vague idea on what software I need. Can anyone help me?
This is the list so far:
Linux (Any recommendations on what version)
Apache
MySQL
PHP
Perl
Some kind of firewall software (don't know what)
Some kind of FTP software
I'd also like to give out e-mail addresses too, but I have no idea how to do that either.
Any recommendations would be much appreciated and any tips on how to make this thing secure would also be appreciated. Thanks! _________________ - b

hello bonez,
Im not really up to date on what you want to install server wise, but a useful app is phpmyadmin it can be installed by your users via ftp or you can make it default for each account, and allows you to query mysql from a nice front end. And makes mysql backups alot easier. FTP wise, I'm using cute ftp pro, I've always used Cute and whenever I've used any other ftp I've not been impressed. Depends on what you are used to I suppose.
As far as setting up emails, well once you register your domain, I use 123-Reg, you will have a control panel where u can add and remove pop3 accounts or redirects, pretty simple really. Hope that helps, keep the thread updated with the latest mate, and to find out more about security I suggest reading the online documentation of php, mysql and esp apache. Good Luck.

Hey dudes!
Got the webserver setup today - running Apache, PHP, Perl.
Unfortunately, the problem now is how to setup the User accounts.
I think I got it working but PHP gives some kind of permission thing. Anyone got a tutorial on setting up web user accounts for an Apache Webserver running on Windows (couldn't figure out linux at all) _________________ - b
