i "dont fit in".

I "think too freelance".

I like to think for myself and im not afraid to question the opinion of those above me. Ergo : exit stage left.

Sure el tigre.
I first got hold of a copy of photoshop and i hadnt dabled in digital art before then. In a few weeks i taught myself the ins and outs of the program (couldnt affoard to buy a manual or guide) I just started by work on web graphics, being the idiot i am i dont like to start off with easy stuff so i always aimed to create stuff that was beyong my ability at that stage, but i think thats what pushed me on quickly (hating my work.) After about 6 months i set up a small group of freelance web designers with some friends, we werent working for money but simply to get noticed, and it worked, after a month 3 of us ( self included ) were employed by a London based company. We worked hard and long hours and the pay was poor (it was still money tho ) but schedules were tight. I didnt work on that many projects as my time was almost completley taken up on work for a record label (the world's largest reggae record label - jetstar records.) Due to certain key people above me leaving and dumping the project in my hands, i had to work hard to keep it on schedule. But after a year of working with the company my lack of studying was begining to show, so i quit the company with my other 2 friends which originaly came with me. Since then we have taken a brake and are now begining to put together our free lance company which now boasts 8-9 employes. Im still only 17 and therefor only completed my highers and standard grades, im now trying to decide between Dundee art school, or the Glasgow school of arts.

My advice is, that in the web design buisness clientel and employers arn't intrested in qualifications (they didnt even care how old i was) sure it will get your foot in the door, but as always comes down to experiance, reputation and a blinding folio.

Stick at it, its a very satisfying buisness

Keep at it, spit. Thinking different can be a disadvantage in the majority of things, but in my personal opinion it will pay off eventually. I enjoy your design!

Incarnatation- What qualifications have you? I'm up in Scotland and I wanna know more about the UK web design scene.

I'm thinking about doing an MCSE course. I did Art&Design/Photography/Exhibition Design and so I'd rather do something more artistic than an MCSE

Any suggestions?

Affected : hell yeah i wouldn't have lasted longer than a month anyhow.

Incarnation : your story sounds remarkably like mine

Synj : Thanks man, i believe in individuality (sp?) rather than conformity. Especially when it comes to design...

Thx all...

spitfire i think individuality is a quality all true artists have within them, we people tend not to follow other people's decisions and choices blindly, we like to make choices by ourselves wether they be right or wrong

it boils down to this. most corporates JUST want to make money, and they want to do it the way they always have. resulting in this they are afraid of change or experimenting, as it may result in a loss of money. well they can just suck on a fart-tube, and turn it on high power.

then there are companies looking for for individuality. one of them being the place I got hired. they have quite a few web designers, but you might be able to push your way in. Or anyone else for that matter. If you are confident of your material, go apply at www.z.com , an upcoming community of the better portion of idependent content.

Say the word, and it's...

"HADOUKEN!"

What a bunch of losers! They don't know what they're missing!

Synj is right - corporation=no_risk. They listen only after you've made them millions. And still, you're expendable...

I'd hire you Spit - but I don't have any money! lol

Spitty's witty
he'll do fine
talents abounding
just takes time

And like Synj said
up there above
those who think
fit future's glove

*bleh*
