i think something green is in order -- for the background (I think it would play off well with the red of the suit and the purple of the present -- you're already thinking about complimentary colors i can see ^_^).

what does his teeth say?

I love the chiseled look to the blue rim of the hat and present, I'd like to see more of that in the face (make it look more 3D)

well...you actually my only complaint about the face really is the eyes, in that they look pasted on. And maybe try removing the highlight along the bridge of his nose? meh, maybe not.

overall, I think it's a very charming piece -- I can't wait to see it finished!
