I suppose we'll have to send Bruce Willis up to drill a hole and blow it up.. right?

We should look on the bright side though.. if it turns out that their calculations was correct.. we can all spend our retirement savings! YAY!

According to NASA its only a 1 on the Torino scale.

"the chance of collision is extremely unlikely"

That'll be a nice 31st birthday present for me...two days early, though.

mh: They have estimated it to be a 1 only because of the background and how rare it is for an object of this size to hit us. As I understand it, it has very little to do with this object in particular.

As I understood it there's about a 1000000km margin of error as of where it will be on the 1st of february 2019.. and we're within that margin. So the most likely scenario right now is that it will be a near miss.

Diruo: well, it has already passed us in.. hum 1980 I think, and it was actually estimated to be even nearer that time and well.. we are still living arent we?

(i might be wrong, my memory of "close" encounters with asteroids are not as good as it once was.. hehe)

A large collision in 2019 ought to put our centennial windshield denting right on schedule, coinciding within 5 years of Tunguska.

Except the world should be about 4 times as populous by then. Interesting.

WHO'S LAUGHING AT BUNKER BUSTER NUCLEAR WEAPONS NOW?!!!?

We had an average size asteroid come within 400,000 miles of earth a few months back. Surprised the hell out of a lot of people, and we all forgot about it the very next week. People are blissfully ignorant about these sort of things; a Congressional poll showed astronomy/NASA having about .1% importance in the public opinion, yet asteroids, comets, deadly gamma rays and all sorts of space junk pose a very certain, impending destruction every second we live. It's having the sword of Damocles suspended our head, and we're worried about breaking a nail.

My posts are getting more and more disarrayed.

i think its all made up, i have strong evidence!!!!
the newspapers didnt have anything to write about (except of course the wars. theres always something on somewhere.) that means they have to resort to big brother, but there was nothing there except for that jade character sticking her fist in her mouth???!!!! (i still dont understand how people watch big brother, and i dont understand how shit like that makes first page in the newspapers) well, left with nothing to write about, they just predict the ned of the world in 20 years, and hope that by then everyone will have forgotten about it.....

ps, im not saying it doesnt exist, im just saying that that crap happns every day, and noone gives a toss until nobody has interesting to say. a bit like smalltalk really.

my 2pence (i dont have cents)

LoL, that's nice, Feb 1st 2019 will be my 34th birthday, according to what the www.thespark.com life test says, I would die 14 years before my natural death

Okay, I'm gonna set up a list of things to do before dying :P

Now what would truly be cool, is if it just skinned our atmosphere and hit the moon.

Or if it hit the moon into us..

I hate the tide!

I don't care if something hits the earth and destroys it in my lifetime, as long as I figure out how to properly draw hands before it happens.

What a boring life goal.

You have 17 years to learn it, go on drawing, quit your job and draw for 17 years I think you'd be able to draw hands in about 6 months, but what nexT?

Watch as we now devote our lives to parties and dept, only to see the astroid miss the earth by mere metres...

meh, at least Rat will have more time to draw hands. But hell, if the world is going to be obliterated whats the point in drawing anyways?

I'm guessing that Dr. Bang or Lunatique can give you advice in that area.

Well, don't be too optimistic, Rat, if we don't stop killing ourselves, you might die even before the asteroid crosses earth :?
