Trying out using Painter's Scratchboard Rake for more complex situations, think it worked out all right. The jpeg compression of course butchers all fine lines and most white areas (they are slurred into grayer tones).

Still trying to figure out composition issues, any advice is of course much appreciated. Any book advice on composition would be splendid also.

Shocked
Another amazing picture.

I like how the attention is drawn to the dragons face. Crits? The only thing I can think of is that is seems there's not much hope at all for the knight Crying or Very sad . Wink
And that might be intentional...

Ooh... I am THIS close to getting a deal with a serious rpg publisher, I am trembling...

AndyT, saw something from you the other day that was VERY nice indeed. A tremendous leap from your usual thick black outline. Can't remember the subject (self-portrait?), but I was impressed. Oh, and I seem to like helpless victims in my pictures. It comes from within, and I'm not sure I want to know from where exactly.

Dahmanegi: Thanks, medieval is always an aim.

Max: I really like the textures, but although it conveys emotion well (imho) I'm not sure it's precise enough for illustration work. I'm glad you can appreciate it!

Thanks all, on to the next...

Thanks Enayla! It's scary gambling on such an oddball technique, but I think it might be part of my illustration future.

Here's a final update. It was kinda week storytellingwise, so I among other things did some touch-up with the Scratchboard Tool (not the Rake), cleaning out some stuff.

Maybe the scratchboard techinque can be used in conjunction with other b/w styles I like. We'll see. I like building light with it - nice example of that is the rightmost hand. Jeeesus, I like rambling on about my own stuff.
