Eh, I'll post anyway =D

Well, in between my comic book colouring work, I do get to have some fun - late at night when I should be sleeping ;P Sorry for not having been around, but I've been busy - I'll try to make a point in returning more often to Sijun =] Looks nifty with the new face and all.

Anyway, here are two images in a new sort of 'style' I've had some fun with. Lack of contrast is very much intended - and some people always end up not liking it ;] Oooh, and if you've seen them before, my sincere apologies.

Nelicquele

The forest had tones of amber and moss, and the shadows were a dusky, whispery purple much like the colour of her eyes.

Where the depth of those shadows dropped away into blackness, she could see it. It. The looming darkness of the abyss. A darkness that opened up and threatened to swallow her, at times - a darkness that would slither close to her feet and plant little kisses against the hem of her dress.

A feeling she had grown accustomed to - living there, on the brink of falling into the endless dark.

It was a feeling she had grown to love.

Jeirehneen

"Innocence", he said, while his eyes fell away and slowly slid their black irises to study the mist-laden woods around him.
"Losing your innocence, is like losing a limb."
The smile that appeared on his lips was neither cold nor warm - it was colourless. Flat.
"You can still live - you can move around. But you will never dance again, not like you once did. You will never run across a meadow without a shadow drifting over your heart."
The eyes returned. Slowly lifting - swaying upwards like birds taking flight.
"She crippled me."
Quiet, for a moment, and then,
"For that, I will cripple her."

The woman that he speaks of is none other than Ta'thaniise, Queen of the Dark Fae. He is Jeirehneen, of the Eshreemn.

I know the pose in this one must seem a bit dull - but I was really just aiming for a portrait of the character. It's 'snapped' when he speaks to a visitor to his woods. I suck at interesting poses. Maybe it'll be the next thing I'll learn?

Sorry for all the text. I just can't post my pictures without the texts that belong to them. Hahah.

awsome work! the lack of contrast looks great. I really like the 2nd one, the forest looks awsome with the lights shining through it. Only thing I can say is that in the 1st one, the whole pic gives off a general ambient color, as if you made a layer with one color and made it transparent and put it on top. Not a bad thing, just noticing.

Only two crits.

The cloth on the girl, it looks almost too sharp, like it's missing some shading and or shadows in certain areas to be possible.

Second crit is ... they've got no feet! (ok, so that's minor)

I really love the mist-filled forest look of the backgrounds though.

Personally i like those lack of contrast, its a litte bit more atmospheric. But i know many people, dont like this/prefer more contrast. So i tend to give my work enough, so both sides are happy. Wink

Anyhow, great work, with and without more contrast!

I had to observe these paintings for at least 5 minutes to fully enjoy them. The lack of contrast envelopes them in an ethereal atmospehere, almost dream like. Excellent!

What kind of comics do you color?

AColdOldKodiak: Thank you very much =D I know about the ambient thing - it has to do with the fact that I lighted up all the shadows to a red-brown-grey hue, and darkened all the highlights, trying to find a lack of contrast that my eyes would enjoy. It's an experiment, and I'm still not sure how it worked out o__O Like I said, some people -hate- it, really, and some people seem to enjoy it.

Proper fuel: Aw, thanks =] Spent a lot of time on the folds on the dress.

Tomasis: Heheh, thanks =)

Awetopsy: Thanks =D I keep the size of the pictures down, online, because of problems with theft... I've already had quite a few images abused, so I never upload anything bigger than 1000pixels. It sucks, but what can a girl do? =(

CyberArtist: Hmm... you might be right about the cloth. I'll probably leave it as it is, though - I dont have the time to go back and change anything... sometimes, I also feel that some 'faults' make the pictures look better, I don't know =] Heheh, and feet... argh... I HATE DRAWING FEET! If I can avoid it, I'll never, ever will draw feet again!

-HoodZ-: =D

Lunatique: Um... well... arr... if you meep me on icq, maybe I can give you a better resolution version...? Or if you email me... I won't post it online. Glad you like it, by the by =)

Intuos: Heheh, maybe I'll make it available as a poster, eh? Thank you very much - I'm very glad to hear that my new 'attempts' are appreciated. I have no idea where I'm heading off to with my work, but I'm enjoying the use of more washed-out colours so far.

Sumaleth: Thanks =D

Duracel: Thanks =] I don't know - people always nag me for more contrast, but I really try to do what I feel like doing, and what I feel will help me develop, rather than what I'm asked to do - unless they're paying me for it, heheh. These pictures are personal ones, in which case I sometimes love to experiment with new ways of dealing with colour.

Matthew: Thank you =]

Max Kulich: Aw, thank you very much.

UkiTakuMuki: Thanks =] And yes - I generally use a few references for every picture. Sometimes, I flail for a way to draw an ear, and sometimes I can't get a hand position right -- it's a mix between using a mirror, and using photos. Generally for positions, not shading or colours.

Cuddly: =D Glad you like them!

Dr.bang: I'm glad you like her. I won't post a full resolution online, but here's a bigger resolution of her face - it's really meant to be watched a bit further away than this. For once, I decided to not overdo the details so that I would go around whining and feeling unhappy because no one would ever see the work I had put in:

There you go =]

Robcamp: Thank you =) It was very interesting to paint without using -any- black or -any- white anywhere in the image. It's all ranging from soft beige colours, to dark greys/purples/reds and greens. I experimented as much as I could with colours - the dress in the first one, to use an example, doesn't have an inkling of green in it... and yet it appears green. I don't think I've ever been so happy with a colour. Heheh.

I colour a comic called Fate of the Blade, for Dreamwave.

Oooh... very nice relative colours! Me likes these a lot! The lack of blacks really is refreshing and moody. Fantastic imagery. If I should crit, I think the head in the first one pops out too much, removing it from that lovely atmosphere. And the second one has a bit of a photo montage look. I'm not sure, but I think it is the darks you've used in both cases. Are you using layers or just paint as you go? These are astounding in every aspect of imagery no matter how I pick, though. Form, value, colour... *sigh*

Either my memories of your older work is completely out there, or you've actually outdone yourself once again by drawing pictures like these.

Wow is an understatement. In fact you know what? It's not even in the same ballpark as these pictures.

Hey, Enayla... I'm sometimes having a hard time to get my rushing thoughts under control, in fact it's pretty much like being nonstop high and only occassionally meeting Mr. Sanity outside taking a crap in your garden. So let me express teh essence of my thoughts, surrounded by a trailerpark of madness, with my favorite emoticon:

Damn, that was the wrong emoticon, that one goes for you and not your artworks. What I wanted ta say is basically: good job, keep 'em coming.
