Meet Kormschkakh Life-stealer, halfbreed gnome/orc and dedicated follower of Gruumsh One-Eye (hence the talisman).
Critique more than welcome, especially on picture reading/flow, and if this works as a character portrayal (which I haven't really done before).

Half gnome, half orc? Ouch. That conception must have been rather painful.
The use of darks seems, to me, to be rather overpronounced here...granted, it does bring the focus to the face, but to me it seems to make the painting rather "empty."
Really, that's the only criticism I can make....the usage of repeated themes (i.e. the "swirling" effect used for the cloak/cape and the border) is very nice, and the character present in the gnorc's face is quite nicely rendered. |

Hi Torstein.
Excellent use of colour or lack thereof I should rather say! The forehead and eyes of the gnorc is really nicely done, however I can't really figure out the mouth. Is it lips or is it the gums we see? Either way it's a bit weird looking. Also the bottom right part of the face is not up to par with the rest of the face.
I like the mix of tight rendering and loose strokes, but/and I think you could experiment some more in the ratio between tightness and looseness around the edges, 'cause now most of it is soft. How about some strands of hair or cloth?
Reading wise it seems to work very well I think. I would like some more space below his right hand though to balance things out a bit.
High ranking stuff, pal!!

In my opinion, the teeth are too white. I would add some yellows or even greens to make them look dirty, because I don't think he is the kind of "person" who is clean and worries about appearence
The rest looks great and portraits his personality very well. And the dagger is a nice addition ![Very Happy](images/smiles/icon_biggrin.gif) _________________ "Ever forward, my darling wind." -Master Yuppa

Angelic Remix: Painful, hep Strange cross-breeds are more fun than, say, halfelves (yawn). I put some greens into the shadows last, but got a bit weak on it I guess. More pronounced, and the shadows might get more exciting. Thanks!
Sukhoi: A bit sloppy on chin area, I surrender. Thanks for the comments, I'm still thinking of that landscape you did, those clouds...
Ragnarok: I didn't want to go too dirty, as I picture him in civil surroundings. Those teeth stand out, though. Hm, thanks. _________________ www.torsteinnordstrand.com |
