Do the images on my site look washed out with YOUR monitor settings? |
Yes, it looks like someone spilt milk all over them. |

No -- in fact they're too dark -- some just look like black rectangles |

So I've finally put up a new website, and it's in good enough condition right now to ask for some crits, so:
http://students.cec.wustl.edu/~jd1/home.html
Design:
How can I take it farther? Should I change the front page? Is it effective? Is there a better way for me to design the subpages? Do the images look washed out with YOUR monitor settings?
Content:
Is there something I'm forgetting? Should I consider adding something else? Take something off?
How do you like the art?
Does the Resume look alright? How can I improve it?
Should I get rid of the About me page? _________________ ------------------------

Yes, all of the stuff in the 2d section looks kind of washed out. Are you shooting your art with a digital camera or scanning it? Well either way, adjusting the contrast on the image file before you post it could probably take care of this problem. _________________ Smokey, this is not 'Nam this is bowling. There are rules. |

how many ppl do you know with a portrait monitor? once i hit the art button (which should show that its a button, not just a click and pray) it goes from your approx 8x6 splash to something which i have to scroll up and down to look @ even on my 1600x1200 res..) try making the content so its useable on say the smallest monitor setting ppl might use today , 800x600 some ppl still use 640x480 but they are so few its not worth worrying about..
keep working on it
i didn't have any trouble with your pics btw.. |

Thanks guys for the input
Inspector Lee - yeah. I adjusted all of my images so that they'd look good with Windows default gamma settings (which is why they look washed out to you) -- but it just recently occured to me that most people don't actually use them (I got a few people here at the forum complaining that my images are too dark, so i adjusted them for windows default). Trouble is, I'm not sure what percentage of normal webviewers ARE using those settings -- hence the poll.
B0b - Thanks for taking the trouble to reply. To be honest, I'm not that worried about people having to scroll up and down -- but do you have to scroll left and right? _________________ ------------------------
