Hey everyone,
Here's my latest. A couple things are a little different from the stuff you've been seeing from me lately. First you may notice that the figure's been rendered in a slightly more illustrative style than my previous pin-up work. I guess this was the natural evolution of my style from all the photo-realistic pin-up I was doing over the summer combined with the less realistic commissioned stuff I've been doing lately. Secondly, I'm trying to be more creative/expressive with my backgrounds.
I think this new style works nicely. You'll have to let me know what ya'll think about it.
Anyway, on with the show....
"Insatiable Appetites"
Model: Roxanne Galla
The background was painted in traditional media on watercolor paper, then scanned into Photoshop for some added digital paint and effects. Basically I scanned the bg into PS, then layered it over itself a few times and used different layer styles to create different effects. I also added a couple of fonts and some cut-out shapes I made, then layered those over the bg as well.
The subject and the sheet were painted freehand in Photoshop on a 9x12 Wacom tablet.
Here's a closer look at the painting and some full res cut-outs from it:
Closer look
Cut-outs
Those of you who are familiar with me and my work know that I don't post nude photos of my models, but I've included a non nude cut-out from my reference photo for comparison purposes.
Reference cut-out
Let me know your thoughts.
Take it easy,

Amazing detail as always. I'm mostly impressed with the faded cloth she is laying on. The accurate folds and curves just seems to hold the hole work together!
Awsome! _________________

Hello
Very nice picture the skin tone is very impressive.
The background works nice. It looks like she is in some
Hostile environment.
one crit, the el-bow looks strange somehow?? Cant put the finger on the problem though. Maybe the reference looked like that.
keep up the excellent work
have a nice weekend

um... DAMN Mal! That rocks!
I like the illustrative style much more. Don't get me wrong. Your photorealism is amazing, but this style gives the painting more attitude. I really dig it man. _________________ No matter where you go, there you are. |

Wow Malachi - in my opinion, this is your most realistic painting to date. That foot is fucking incredible - I can't stop looking at it! Wow, and the hair as well just boggles my mind.
You're such a workhorse when it comes to realism/detail, I totally envy your patience. Wicked, wicked, wicked. I wish ya all the best man, Brian's right, if you haven't already been discovered in a big way, it's fuckin' coming. |

before I scrolled down all they way I thought it was real. o_O This is great. I love the smoothness of it all like around the thighs and then further down the legs how it's got some nice muscle detail. very good, man. and the feet actually look like feet...that's something I can't do. |

Your shading style is amazing.
I am not too sure with the background - it looks very good but maybe doesn't suit with this warm soft look of the woman.....well, it's taste.
Anyway, VERY WELL DONE |

Hey folks. Thanks so much for all of the feedback, it's enormously appreciated.
I'm totally exhausted right now because I've been up all nigh finishing another painting.
I'm gonna crash out now, but I promise I'll answer all of your questions and address your comments personally tomorrow after I get up.
Thanks again for all the comments, crits and support.

Al Ian~ Hey, thanks for the kind words.
Matthew~ Thanks for the feedback. I'll keep an eye on my elbows.
Ragnarok~ Thanks man.
Jami Noguchi~ Thanks Jami. I totally agree with you on the style thang, I think the little differences help a lot. I'm going to keep developing it and just see where it goes. Thanks again.
-HoodZ-~ lol Thanks dude.
eyewoo~ Thanks bro, means a lot coming from you.
Brian~ Shit man, that's a great complement. Thanks.
Intuos~ Damn, that's another string of excellent complements. I'm glad you like this piece so much, you really put a smile on my face man. Thanks.
Giant Hamster~ Hey GH, thanks for the kind words.
Max Kulich~ Thanks for the feedback. Yea, I guess it's a personal taste issue. I personally like the way the smooth rendering of the model contrasts with the rough textured look of the background. But I guess I can see where you're coming from. To each there own I suppose. Well hey, I'm really happy you like the rest of the image. Thanks for taking the time to comment.
radical travis~ lol Thanks.
Bare Bonez~ Hey thanks man. Maybe with a little more development of this new style, it won't be so hard to tell. That's the new goal I have with my work; I want it to look very realistic, but at the same time I want to make it better, more detailed, more vivid in color, than a photo could ever be. Well, I'm working on it. We'll just have to wait and see what develops I guess.
aColdOldKodiak~ Hey dude, thanks for the kind words.
robcamp~ Thank ya much Mr. Camp.
Thanks again for all of the kind words and support. It's really nice to know that after you spend a half a month working on something, that it'll be appreciated in the end. Very cool, all of you put a big smile on my face.
