Has anyone had a chance to mess with any of those new tablet PCs? I know that Wacom makes the pen parts for practicaly all of them, but I was wondering if anyone has tried running stuff like Photoshop, Flash, or Illustrator on them. I know they would be great for browsing the net anywhere in the house (with a wireless lan of course) but I'm really curious how they stack up from an artistic perspective. I'm not talking about some 10000 x 10000 high-res work of art. I'd just like something a little more protable that I can jot down those moments of inspiation on. I carry my trusty sketch pad in my breifcase, but It'd be nice not to have to scan it all in.
Lemme know what you think.
Thanks, |

Yeh, I played with the Acer model back in October and was pretty impressed. The brush action was quick, smooth, responsive and high resolution. I brought along a copy of PS and installed it, but the pressure sensitivity didn't work. Otherwise it worked fine. Wacom has now released a driver that will work on the tablet PC, but I haven't tested that out yet.
http://www.tabletpctalk.com/ is a web page with a lot of information about the machines. There's a 'comparison' link on the page that brings up a chart that compares the specs for all the known models so far. I've found it pretty handy. By the looks of the specs, the models us artists will probably be most interested in are the Toshiba Protege and the Motion Computing model, because of their larger screens and bigger RAM allotments.
I'm pretty sure I'll pick one up as soon as I can (not all the models are available here in Canada yet), as I'm desperate to go paint digitally outdoors. If and when I do, I'll be sure to share my work and thoughts here.

Thanks a lot that site is a big help. I'll have to do some more homework before I settle on one to drop the bucks on. |
