I've written a rough outline for a children's book, primarily as a vehicle to continue working on this style... This is the first picture.

And here are some texture details:

My critique is a compositional one . . . it seems akward to me that the leaves stop 1/3rd of the way down the scene, as if they all started falling at once. I'd prefer to see them distributed all the way to the ground, with perhaps one or two in front of the cat.

Very nice palette though, and the pose of the cat works well.

Outstanding work Phil! The texture work is extreme, I believe that's a must when it's going to be printed, I have never done printed work.

It has a real child bookish feeling, It gives me that confortable warmth in my heart as if I was a little kid again reading a book while the rain outside is hitting the window glass. mmmmmm, life was so much more fun when I was 6

great work man!

I agree, the lighting and general feeling in this picture is just great. But is it just me or does the cat need a little bit more shadow? It looks like its floating in midair...

Specter out!

Hey... thanks for all the encouraging comments. I'm really enjoying this style.

Specter... you're reading it right... The cat is in mid air, having jumped up to snatch at a leaf. He has no shadow, because his shadow would fall well below the bottom edge of the picture.

Oh, alright then! Laughing At first sight, it looked like the cat was lying on its back playing with the leaves. But now that I know its supposed to be in midair,... nice job eyewoo! Smile

Specter out!

Very nice. As everyone else mentioned the colors are incredible. I think you're really starting to make this style work well. It looks to me like you've managed to combine this new look with your old style. It's looking great.

Great Stuff, Have you been able to find any new clients for your new style? I hope so. I love the textures in your pieces. I think I said it once before, but it'd be great to see a wallpaper in that new illustration style of yours... Wink
