I'm having trouble understanding the left side of this image. It looks like he may be holding a lantern or something but I'm not sure what that tall slender shape above the light source is. Is it part of a tall lamp or just a bad tangent with something in the background? Also if this is a lamp, it should be casting a stronger light on the figure's face no?
