I think the head is too small and the legs have wrong proportions. His arms somehow look strange, maybe you could look at some body-builder-photos or such references. And where are his nipples?
and: how should he get his sword into the "case" (don't know the english word) without cutting it?? |

I don't want to be mean or anything.. but the guy does look like a man sqaush or something. I suggest you work on anatomy by using a photo referance. Anatomy isn't an overnight thing, but you shouldn't just make guesses on what muscles and whatnot look like, practice making them look real.
try this site as well http://www.fineart.sk/ _________________ http://jcaart.cjb.net |

dont let people like loxley and briareos discourage you, some people are just jerks
keep working on it though, you will get there eventually
also, another good resource for referance pictures of anatomy and whatnot: http://www.planetquake.com/shattered/shine/images/ref/
good luck! ![Wink](images/smiles/icon_wink.gif) _________________ From whence i came, I shall return. |

Matthew, your coloring is improving with every post. Great color saturation and color choices here. A definite improvement over some of your earlier work.
And believe it or not, your grasp of anatomy is improving as well. aColdOldKodiak is right though, anatomy ISN'T an overnight thing and takes a lot of practice. I think you're moving along at a nice pace, keep practising and posting!
That said, the basic anatomy does need some work. If you don't mind, I'll see if I can do a paintover when I get home from the office and maybe give you my two cents worth then. |

Hello
Thanks for the replies. I dont take Crits as mean, they are helping me.
I am still struggling with the anatomy and I was earlier following my wooden mannikin which had the wrong measurements...hhehe...crazy.
Hopefully will the next picture rock totally...hehe.
Cuddly I would love to see a paintover.
Thank you everyone
Have a nice day

hi mathew, I;m not very good at anatomy myself but I think I have a tip that could help you out.
Try to start your sketch with a rough image of the whole person, then make sure the proportions are correct, and then start on the detail.
Your pic here seems to be built up out of different parts, an arm here a leg there, you need to find a way to make it all seem like one piece, and I think this tip will help.
Also try to avoid using a 2d perspective on everything, it makes it seem flat and also adds to the arm here leg there thingy, because there is nothing really binding the seperate elements, once they start to overlap, they interact with each other, making the whole piece more like a unity.
Using a 3d perspective also allows you to use more rewarding poses, give it a shot.
Ps.
I'm sorry if your already working like with the raw sketch first and then the detail, if this is the case, you just need to study anatomy.
Pps.
I'm not sure if 2d and 3d perspective are like, real words, but you know what i mean right? _________________ Tingalingaling, dance style an swing, DJ ya suckah with da freestyle rabbin!

Thanks for the reply PuC.
I know i have some anatomy problems here and there, I always seem to screw up the muscles in my pictures.
I have just recently started to build up the characters with primitives and I think its starting to help me out but I am still having a hard time to find cool and natural poses with the characters. Maybe you have a tip on how to achieve those?
And yeah I knew what you meant with the perspectives.
thank you

hello--i took the liberty of blurring the *shlong*
but hell yea matthew you ARE getting better---i notice you're mostly into line art but i still hope this'll help...check this site out--it helps A LOT --
http://www.fineart.sk/
you just need to work on symmetry of the anatomy and using realistic body parts--sketch more instead of making finished pieces all the time---it will help a lot more if you do 100 sketches and 1 good finished piece rather than always doing finished pieces--doodle around and draw what you see--sketch books are handy
