I used to post all of my photography in the Random Musings section, but photography has become a major part of my creative work, and I take it pretty damn seriously. So, from now on, I'll post them in the Finished Gallery section.
New session:
(she's Elena's employee at the cosmetic shop. I ask Elena to grab girls from her store for me to photograph from time to time. )

These are cool. Not awesome but cool. I get the feeling you are saying this girl is not what I'm photograhing but I am photographing this collection of shapes and form.
There is a type of reductionism of the female form into basic visual elements. Interesting work. Several of these are good.
If yuo get more of her sense of personality into your work while keeping your a highly visual aesthetic sense i think it will be better. Maybe try some more interesting angles.
But honestly.. I don't know anything about photography!! How can I get started? |

I noticed you have your models look down to the ground or away from the camera on most of yer pics, which may be good in terms of "female innocence", but it would be IMHO cool as well to have 'em raise their noses up to the sky, looking directly into the cam, telling 'em viewers : "I own your ass", not in an arrogant but cheeky way. A smile on the face would add "hey, I'm kidding", in a very congenial manner. Ah well, you're the photo masta, think about it...
BTW: Did you apply some photoshoppery to those pics? Pic # 1 looks really good, that's black in it's most intense form of appearance, bay-bee. _________________

Twice- Thanks! Actually, she's pretty average looking. I tend to shoot people so they look much better than they do in real life. But, in the case of my wife, she is extremely photogenic, so I don't have to try too hard with her.
Light- I get what you mean, but for different models I go for different things. With Sao-Ling, that is how I see her. But, I admit, I do tend to mold the subjects into how I idealize them. Every once a while, I come across someone that is so interesting that I just let them do their own thing. In general, I'm a lot more like a film director than a photographer though. Most people are very camera shy, so if you don't direct them, they'll just be very stiff.
[666]Flat- Ya, I tend to have them look away a lot. I love the "candid" look of that method. Also, girls that are not very pretty tend to look much better when don't dont' stare at the camera and crack the lense... (I know that sounds mean, but it's the truth...). But if you noticed, the actual pretty ones I have them look straight at the camera a lot--like my wife.
Photoshop is my digital darkroom, since I don't shoot film photography. Sometimes I get it dead on when I press the shutter and nothing needs to be processed, but sometimes you have to go into the darkroom to get them the way you want them. I mean, without that step, Ansel Adams wouldn't be as famous as he is. . .. :p
Matthew-Thanks.
Awetopsy- Thanks dude. Sao-Ling's got really black hair, but so do most asians I guess. . ..
BTW, the rest of the session is at my site: http://www.enchanted.prohosting.com/photography/sao-ling/sao-ling.htm |

#1 is great. My eyes quickly focused on that black hair, with such a nice contrast. _________________ _ _ _____ _ _
