Hey guys, I know this site, http://www.fineart.sk/anat.htm and i got loomis book in pdf, however.. see the last 3? they are like not really books just exerts and photos of anatomy. Any more sites you guys might know of close ups of arms, head (there is a cool side/3rd of the head with muscles), erm legs, all close ups of individual body parts, same for skeleton (although muscles i want more). Most of the stuff i find is just shading but what the hell do i really need that when im trying to understand the form for myself, dont care about someone else's understanding of the form in rough and how they think light works lol.. i wana know whats under teh skin, under the muscles and well ya :/ Those few pics are cool but :/ Also I remember there was some site with arnold flexing, i wana see those but cant find them (it was actually all kinds of misc muscle pics forgot the site name), now that i think of it, it would be neat to find also those arnold pics to see the muscles overexagerated(well.. large in his case) so i can understand the positioning in 3d as well. Thanks i really appreciate it I am finally getting back into the mood to soley draw and enjoy what i draw, i am prepping for sheridan as well (i will take the 1 year art fundementals first im too stressed from a buncha things in life/world blah, i need the easy year to meet people anyways My understanding of anatomy and whats under the skin is sort of weak to begin with so... ya Ok ill stop ranting, my eyes are all red, basicly got home, read some news, and then been drawing since 5, and its 11 now, gotta go sleep.. should have went to sleep at 10 early wake up for school Please dont mind my grammar, im writing this in a rant manner, as im slowly falling asleep :/ |

I dunno of any other sites... but you might wanna pick up the book Atlas of Human Anatomy for the Artist, by Peck. I have it and it's awesome. Plus all the animators here at Sheridan recommend it too.
And hey... if you wanna start studying anatomy now that's great... you'll be miles ahead of anyone else in Fundies!
Hogarth's stuff is AWESOME (I don't care what anyone says), but you gotta remember that it is dynamic, not realistic. You can learn a lot from him but it's better to check his stuff out after you've learned what realistic anatomy looks like. |

Hey, I wonder, do I get to learn about anatomy at fundementals then? Will I be doing that at classical animation? I am just interested in fundies because i dont think I am ready and am worried with the double cohort (grade13 cut in ontario).. although i hear it shouldnt be as demanding. If I do then im gona fight hard to get accepted, although the people i am competing (and know) aren't that great.. also the program now has computer animation which i am .. well fairly good (dont wana boast), and most of the guys that are at my school at least haven't even touched a computer when it comes to stuff thats not games. |

I don't think I'll be learning any anatomy this year in fundies. In animation you learn the skeleton in year 1 and the muscles in year 2 I think.
Well, even if you do apply for Animation, you should apply for art fundamentals as well as a backup. I didn't bother applying for animation because I didn't have enough life drawing experience (not many people coming out of high school do). But now that I've been doing about 15 hours of life drawing a week, I'm starting to get in shape. Plus, being in fundies gives you the chance of getting in through special admissions if you have the marks, and there are I think 35 reserved spots for fundies students this year in animation. So really, I'm only going to be competing with other fundies students for one of those 35 spots, not 2000+ people that apply from outside the school.
There's a lot of boring basics learning in fundies, but overall it's helping me out. The best part is actually being in the school... allowing me to check out the animation dept and talk to the students. If anything being in school gives me motivation to work harder too, and that's just what I need since my self motivation before school sucked.
edit; btw... even in this new 4 year program, computer animation isn't introduced until 3rd year... so computer animation experience is not required at all. However, if you're applying from outside with a portfolio, a demo reel of computer work could help a lot.

I would second that last book, the pictures in it aren't the best to draw from because they are in odd poses. The photos are beautiful though. The part that helped me a lot are the parts where the models have a front and back view, then they put a see through sheet of paper over the photo that has the bone structure and muscle structure, hard to explain but a big help.
And sorry to make this even more of a Sheridan discussion, but I was going to apply to sheridan for next fall also. I was wondering what kind of projects you actually do? I was under the impression they really nail figure drawing into you. Now it seems like there are a bunch of lame projects. It is possible to get 15 hours of life drawing a week all year? Also, what is the acceptance rate for fundamentals? I am not near ready to enter anything else, and a certificate would be nice (my parents would be happy!) If I am accepted I am going to make a drive out there and see about staying for a couple days to check it out.
so whats the deal with Fundies?
(sorry again gigatron)

Welp, one of our 6 classes in fundies is a pure drawing class... and so far figure drawing is all we've done, except for a few homework pieces. Figure drawing is a big deal because the fundies course is basically here to prepare for Sheridan's big name art programs, namely illustration and animation. The drawing class alone wont give you enough experience in life drawing to prepare you for one of these courses though... you really have to find the extra time for the estra sessions.
I'm not saying you HAVE to go to every one like I do. But, hell... the more you go to, the faster you improve and the better artist you become. Sheridan's animation program is one of the top in the world and competition is fierce, so you gotta try your best to get in. I'm not working during the school year and even with all the work and the extra drawings I have some free time. Supposedly harder, longer projects will be starting soon so I'll have less time, but I'm always going to make time for life drawing. It's too essential to miss in my opinion. As long as I can hold on to a B+, that's fine... it's the life drawing that will decide my fate after that.
Project wise... I'll be honest, so far a lot of them are pretty lame. I expected this, though, as it is a fundamentals course. I hear more creative projects are introduced towards the second semester but so far it's all pretty basic stuff. Some classes, like 2d design, for example, I hear never improve. It deals with a lot of graphic design issues and symbols and fruity art things... and a lot of weight is on presentation (making you stuff neat and professional). But hey.. I look at this year as necessary to get special admissions to animation... it's all I'm here for.
Regardless of any negative i've said about this program... I'll tell you guys one thing. I've only been in this program for 1 term, and I've improved A LOT already.
edit- oh yeah.. acceptance rate. well, i got in with a 89 high school average. But, my friend also got in with only a 70 average. There's a lot of room for people so you'll probably make it if you were half decent in high school. artistic skill does not matter in applying

Hmm ya I think I have a pretty strong belief to go into fundies, I like the idea that in animation we'll learn first year skelly and 2nd year muscles, its what i really want right now to improve. Like when i do a 3d model right? It takes me quite a while to get the muscles right from ref pics, but if i really knew 3d visually how it was i wouldnt have to worry and would get the thing done under an hour/thirty minutes unlike several hours lol.. Anywho, ya i got that white booklet and ya it says 3d animation begins in 3rd year (which is cool, since normally would have been just one whole year). Ah well, I am also a bit lazy and too stresesd to work on a whoop ass portfolio and alot of ppl seem to advise myself and others to just take fundies for extra practice and networking. OH and I got two cool books. Anatomy for the artist (totally different then the one you posted, it has skeleton, muscle, proportions, poses, skel/muscle redos of popular/well known paintings/drawings but its all drawn not actual photos which is INTERESTING none the least The other book is figure drawing made amazingly easy. Both cool books and I started practicing abit, i got several weeks of hell in the process (LOOOTS of work weirdly enough), so less drawing sadly Sniff, anywho, any other online books, photo sites you guys would suggest. Also don't worry I love it when other people talk about sheridan (be it they are at sheridan, have been sheridan or want to go to sheridan), i want to go too so _________________ Open your eyes... and see the world as it really is... |
